Mr. Sunshine
I shone for 10 years! I, me!
Mr. Sunshine
Mr. Sunshine is an enemy that appeared during the 10th Anniversary Stream, as a random enemy encounter in Dog Hole alongside Abberant. He and Abberant were added as a playable battle on the Undertale website, along with the Sans battle featured in the stream.
Mr. Sunshine resembles a lion with a human-like face and a mane shaped like a crescent. His eyes are tall and have wide pupils. When angered, his head shakes and he bares his teeth, and his eyes appear to fluctuate in size in their sockets. He has a tail tipped with a sun-like humanoid face who rarely speaks, which has a constantly serene expression.
Mr. Sunshine believes that he is the sun, and acts very narcissistic. When his beliefs are challenged, he becomes angry, and when informed of the real sun, he simply assumes it is an imposter, deciding to visit the surface to confront it. Otherwise, due to his self-importance, he is not interested in leaving the underground when the barrier is destroyed. Despite his ego, his self-confidence seems to decrease significantly when the Clouden ACT is used, and this causes him to speak poorly of himself.
- Mr. Sunshine's tail starts spinning, generating bullets spreading out in a pinwheel motion (similar to a Japanese game mechanic called "Danmaku") . The amount of bullets spawned increases if he's attacking alone, This attack varies depending on the last ACT used:
- After using the Brighten ACT, the bullets become larger and slower.
- After using the Clouden ACT, the bullets become smaller and wobbly.
Mr. Sunshine can be spared by selecting any of his three ACTs or by lowering his health below 100.

- Believes he is the Sun, so he doesn't care to leave the UNDERGROUND.
- (But, he is not really the Sun.)

- Mr. Sunshine makes shadows and allegorically believes them as real. [Neutral]
- You confessed that there is a bigger and more real SUN outside. [Skeptic]
- [Brighten]
- You brighten the room with your smile.
- Mr. Sunshine thinks it's a celestial body!
- [Clouden]
- You clouden the room with cruel cynicism.
- Mr. Sunshine thinks he's old news.
After the battle in the BATTLE Web Player, a menu appears prompting the player to choose between returning to the menu and, unless the battle was won, restarting it. The quotation above the options depends on how the battle ended:
- Happy 10th Anniversary to UNDERTALE! [Battle won by sparing both]
- Haven't you learned anything over 10 years? [Battle won by defeating both]
- I guess you were the real aberrant. [Battle won by sparing Aberrant and defeating Mr. Sunshine]
- Do you want to be Mrs. Sunshine? [Battle won by sparing Mr. Sunshine and defeating Aberrant]
- Stay determined! [Battle lost]
- Really? [Battle fled]
Mr. Sunshine was intended to be an enemy in Hard Mode, designed alongside the other Hard Mode exclusive enemies and two additional cut enemies.[2] In early concept art, he was originally named Mr. Core, and can be seen with the same CHECK pose and "SHUT UP!" quote even in this design stage.
- Concept artwork for Hard Mode exclusive enemies, including Mr. Sunshine.
- It is possible that Mr. Sunshine has later inspired Goulden Sam in Deltarune, given his similar concept of a monster inspired by a lion and the sun, and the fact that his tail shares a line with a Goulden Sam's tail in Chapter 3.
- His appearance and ignorant beliefs of greatness can draw parallels to some depictions of the Demiurge.
- His neutral flavor text references Plato's Allegory of the cave.
