Snowdrake's mother

Snowdrake's mother (known in-battle as "Amalgamate") is one of Snowdrake's parents and a byproduct of Alphys's failed determination experiments.

Profile

Appearance

In the True Lab, the protagonist encounters her initially disguised as a fridge. After revealing her true form, she appears to be a Snowdrake-like monster. However, she suffers from the same problems as the other Amalgamates. Half her body is nearly melting off the other half, giving her a more amorphous form.

Two Vegetoid-esque mouths replace her eyes, and the snowflake crest on her head now possesses a "face" at its top point, with the two nearest points to it ending in hands. The circular decoration also resembles an eye. The tip of her beak appears to be chipped, as well as her entire top jaw being speckled with spots.

In the overworld, Snowdrake's mother takes the form of a broad-shouldered, humanoid figure. The figure appears to be wearing a necklace of some sort, and the bottoms of its feet appear to be fused together into a mass that accumulates below her body.

Personality

Snowdrake's mother seems to barely be keeping herself together, evidenced by the text "Seems like it's losing itself." and her animation. Her attacks are unorthodox and lackluster. They are similar to that of Snowdrake, but much less dangerous and accurate - in fact, at some points, the attack is impossible to get hit by.

Main story

She is the mother of the Snowdrake in Snowdin as well as the wife of the Snowdrake-like comedian in the MTT Resort. She became one of Alphys's determination experiments after she "fell down" and was donated.

True Pacifist Route

Snowdrake's mother appears in the True Lab, in the room containing many refrigerators. She is initially disguised as the last refrigerator before the room that houses the green key slot. Interacting with her causes her to reveal herself and attack. She drops the blue key on defeat.

Snowdrake's family reunited.

At the end of the True Pacifist Route, she is seen reunited with her family, who happily accept her despite sharing her mind and body with 16 other monsters; her husband says their family is "bigger than ever".

In battle

Attacks

Compared to the other Amalgamates, Snowdrake's mother puts up an underwhelming fight against the protagonist. She has various attacks, but most of them are harmless and occasionally impossible to touch due to them being outside of the bullet board. These attacks vary from spinning blades starting from the top of the box and accelerating to the side, to the same blades falling outside of the box, to blades that barely move, none of which ever come into contact with the SOUL's starting position. The blades she uses are the same that Snowdrake uses.

Her most dangerous attack is where 1 to 5 spinning blades drop down from the top, but that does not necessitate the SOUL to move to dodge and only causes one damage.

Strategy

The battle ends once the protagonist jokes three times, which calms her down and causes her to leave.

Snowdrake's mother is the only Amalgamate who can be successfully hurt. However, her HP is completely restored in the next turn. It is possible to kill her in one turn with the maximum possible ATK, but killing her does not yield EXP or GOLD, as it is not meant to happen in normal gameplay.

Relationships

Snowdrake

When Snowdrake's mother calls out "sn... o... wy...", she is very likely calling out for her son, as that is his nickname. Chilldrake also refers to Snowdrake as Snowy. There is also a letter in Alphys's lab from "Snowy".

The encounter with Snowdrake's mother shares the same ACT options as Snowdrake. In contrast, "Joke" is the only ACT that can end the battle. It is implied through her reactions to "Joke" ACTs that she used to laugh at Snowdrake's ice puns.

Outside of Undertale

In Deltarune, a gravestone implied to belong to that universe's version of her lists her name as "Crystal". It is unclear whether this is her name in the Undertale universe.

Trivia

• In addition to her eyes in her battle sprite being replaced by Vegetoid-like faces, they could also be meant to resemble two comedy masks.
  • These faces appear to laugh in her idle animation, but, if the mouths are interpreted as eyes, it instead looks as though she is struggling to keep her eyes open.
• While battling her, a dynamically distorted version of Snowy can be heard. It is slowed down quite a bit, with the pitch seemingly waving subtly, and the net speed constantly changing.
  • To be exact, the song is pitched down (and slowed as a result) by 50% at the beginning of the battle. After a random delay ranging from around 0.13 to 4.1 seconds, the track is set anywhere from 30% to 70% of its original speed.
  • Along with this, the track will also oscillate between the current pitch ±0.01, which adds a "wobbly" or "frayed" effect.
• Both "Laugh" and "Heckle" ACTs allude that the protagonist and the narration are different entities.
  • The "Heckle" ACT flavor text is both blunt and criticizing. This is similar to the flavor texts that has a chance occurrence when choosing to "Heckle" Snowdrake.
