Ragel is a minor character in Undertale. He is located in Temmie Village, a hidden area in Waterfall.

Appearance

Ragel is a stationary white mushroom with a blue cap with light blue spots. On his mushroom stalk is two dots for nostrils, which resemble eyes. His arms are bent in right angles, with one arm pointing up and the other pointing down. When spoken to, he performs a "mushroom dance", complete with its own music. The dance involves Ragel swaying side to side with his arm tips slightly swaying. He concludes this dance by lifting his cap, revealing his eyes.

Personality

Ragel is judgmental and existential. He expresses his inner pain through dancing, and he bemoans being rooted to his spot. He is somewhat aware of the protagonist's actions.

Main story

Neutral Route

When speaking to Ragel, he performs a dance, chanting "Mushroom dance" twice in a row and asking "Whatever could it mean". Upon concluding the dance, he expresses his thoughts.

If the protagonist has not killed any monsters, the dance symbolizes Ragel's inner pain, as he is worried about how he is supposed to reach the surface even if the barrier is destroyed since he is rooted to his spot. If the protagonist has killed at least one monster, the dance means that the protagonist has lived a life of sin; subsequent attempts to interact with him has him elaborate that the dance means do not talk to him.

True Pacifist Route

In the True Pacifist Route's epilogue, the dance symbolizes Ragel's unbridled happiness, as the government will move him to the surface. He then questions why the protagonist did not smile at his dance, finding it almost rude.

Creation and development

In room_water_mushroom, a character with the ficus licker placeholder sprite has dialogue similar to Ragel. This was Ragel's early development dialogue before it got changed due to being too similar to the snowman's situation.
