Clam Girl
Not knowing where I live is no issue. Fate finds a way.
Clam Girl
Clam Girl[note 1][1] is a minor character in Undertale. She is found in Waterfall's Quiet Area, southeast of Napstablook's house. She only appears if the fun value is between 80 and 89, and if the protagonist is not on the Genocide Route.
Clam Girl is a monster sporting a clamshell-shaped head. The clamshell is primarily light blue, with dark blue markings across the top. She appears to wear a dark blue tank top that covers most of her body and leaves her shoulders exposed.
Clam Girl's clamshell is initially closed, but it opens up when speaking to her, revealing her face. Additionally, she raises her arms, which are otherwise crossed. Clam Girl's face is round and dark yellow, with what appears to be a leaf on top. She bears a strong resemblance with Clam Guy.
On the Nintendo Switch version and Xbox versions of Undertale, Clam Girl abruptly becomes grayscale at the end of the True Pacifist Route. Here, her hands are slightly lowered, and her face is replaced with a single large eyeball. The leaf on her face is absent, and the eyeball sports dark markings at the bottom, which resemble teeth.
Clam Girl seems to care for her neighbor's daughter "Suzy" and mentions her on multiple occasions.
Clam Girl explains she is from the city, and brings up her neighbor's daughter, "Suzy", who does not appear in-game.[2] She suggests the protagonist should become friends with Suzy.[3] A second interaction causes Clam Girl to note the fact that the protagonist has no knowledge of where she and her neighbor lives, but insists that fate will find a way to bring them together regardless. Alternatively, if the protagonist kills Undyne, Clam Girl notices a disturbance in the nearby aura and suggests the protagonist should leave Suzy alone.[4]
Talking to Clam Girl changes the dialogue found when interacting with the drawer furthest left in Sans's workshop.[5]
In the True Pacifist Route's epilogue, Clam Girl's dialogue changes slightly depending if the protagonist talked to her.
- If the protagonist did, she mentions how the protagonist never met her neighbor's daughter. However, Clam Girl gives an uplifting speech as well as their neighbor's blessing.
- If the protagonist did not, Clam Girl explains that she wanted to mention her neighbor's daughter, but that fate has decided that she should not do so.
On the Nintendo Switch and Xbox versions, if the fun value is exactly 81, Clam Girl's dialogue is different. She acknowledges the protagonist has never met Suzy, but that the time to meet her "... is fast approaching". Upon the last line, Reunited stops, and Clam Girl's sprite becomes grayscale.[6] Ending this conversation causes her to disappear with the sound used for spr_mysteryman and Gaster follower 2.
The Nintendo Switch version was released on September 18, 2018, one month before the release of Chapter 1 of Deltarune on October 31, 2018. This addition likely alludes to Susie, a main playable character in Deltarune. This is further supported by the photo in Sans's workshop, which is inscribed with "don't forget", the name of the track played during Chapter 1's credits and Deltarune's main leitmotif.
While Clam Girl herself does not make an appearance in Deltarune, Clam Guy's idle sprite shares its appearance with hers.
