Sans/In battle (10th Anniversary)
hope you're serious, kid...
because once we start...
there's no getting away.Sans
Sans has two much less serious boss fights in the 10th Anniversary Stream, neither of which exist in the original game. A version of the second boss fight was later released to the public on the official Undertale website, which can also be played on mobile.
Sans leaves the encounter immediately after it begins, forcing the protagonist to leave as well by fleeing.
In his second battle, Sans uses bullets which do not deal any damage. The bullet board extends horizontally past both sides of the screen. If the SOUL is pushed beyond either side, the protagonist is forced to flee and the battle immediately ends; as no damage is dealt, this is the only way to "lose" the battle. The SOUL can touch the boundaries on its own without fleeing, but cannot move further in that direction. The battle is considered lost if the SOUL is pushed off-screen.
- Starting from the right a bone needing a small jump, and a small and tall bone needing 2 jumps. Then 9 bones on the ceiling with small hangovers to rest on, with 7 rows of fast bone platforms coming from the left on the floor.
- Starting from the right 2 bone platforms are needed to make it over a tall bone, then 3 lines of bones with small gaps between them needing 3 small jumps. 2 more bone platforms are needed to make it over another tall bone. Ending off with a surprise bone coming from the left.
- Starting from the right 3 normal and blue bones in a pattern, then a big bone with a blue behind it. Then 16 blue bones with a moving floor, ending off with 2 bone platforms needed to make it over a tall bone with a blue behind it.
- Starting on a bone platform with fast bones coming from the right on the floor, lots of bones come in different ways to knock the SOUL off the platform from the top.
- Starting from the right many bone platforms spawn, requiring jumps on each as to avoid the fast bones coming from the right on the floor.
After the final attack, Sans gets on a bulldozer and sweeps the SOUL off-screen, ending the battle. Reaching this point is considered a "win" as the post-battle text changes and the player is not prompted to retry.
Attacking Sans causes him to dodge (mirroring his original battle) and ridicule the protagonist for trying to hit him while he is not "dozin'". He moves off the right side of the and comes back with a faster bulldozer than usual. This guarantees a "loss".
The SOUL is in blue mode for the entire battle. Sans does not deal any damage, but his attacks act as physical objects that the SOUL can interact with and be pushed around by. Blue attacks are tangible only when the SOUL is moving. No items are available during this fight.
Sans's blue bones seem to have a certain degree of leniency to them. It is recommended to prioritize moving forward fast over playing it safe.
Both the pre-battle and post-battle quotes are exclusive to the 10th Anniversary Stream, as the web version of the battle begins directly in-battle. Ending the battle is replaced by a screen with a quote and options to return to menu and, unless the battle was 'won', to try again. In addition, all battle quotes were altered as well.
- hey, what's up, kid?
- ... what? another charity thing?
- you want me to go into a battle...
- and attack you?
- wow.
- i'm sure it's for a good cause, but...
- can't really believe anyone's donating me to hit you.
- ...
- ... you know what, all right.
- you want to battle, i'll do it. just this once.
- ready?
- huh. guess you did get away. who knew.
- ... if someone was actually trying to stop you,
- that wouldn't really be a very efficient way of fighting.
- if they let you run away...
- you'd probably be able to slowly make progress...
- getting further and futher away from them.
- just a hunch, though.
- what, again?
- [Encounter]
- hope you're serious, kid...
- because once we start...
- there's no getting away.
- [Turn 2]
- all right, how about another one? [10th Anniversary Stream]
- dealing damage... nah, that'd be too harsh, right? [BATTLE Web Player]
- here, lemme take it easy on ya.
- [Turn 3]
- okay. let's try a blue one. [10th Anniversary Stream]
- hey, not bad. but do you remember how blue attacks work? [BATTLE Web Player]
- hope so. i wouldn't really know how to explain it.
- [Turn 4]
- another. [10th Anniversary Stream]
- cool, so you do remember. [BATTLE Web Player]
- ... that's all you remember, right?
- [Turn 5]
- another one for the road. [10th Anniversary Stream]
- okay. we all had fun. [BATTLE Web Player]
- now here's one more for the road.
- [Mid-Turn 5]
- and this is for the road.
- [Attack]
- what, you think you can hit me without me dozin'?
- ... all right, i get it. i'll be fair. i'll doze for ya.
- stay still for a sec.
- how was that? enough for your charity thing?
- ... you looked like you were having fun. heh.
- ...
- i dunno if it's good to have fun fighting, though.
- so that's enough. got it?
- Happy 10th Anniversary to UNDERTALE! [Battle "won"]
- Stay determined! [Battle ended by player being forced to flee]
- well, getting to the last move was good enough, right? [Battle lost on the last move]
- don't doze off... [Battle ended by trying to attack Sans]
- well, that works, i guess. [Player chose to flee]
- look. i'm not mad. but why did you suddenly walk out on the last move? [Player chose to flee before the last move]
- The easiest enemy. Won't even deal damage. [Check #1]
- The easiest enemy. You still lost though. [Check #1 after losing]
- Still Sans. You checked. [Check #2]
- Still Sans. You checked. (More thoroughly this time.) [Check #3]
- [Check #4]
- Still Sans. ... wait, that's not true.
- Sans is moving, not still.
- You'll need to check more thoroughly next time.
- Moving Sans. [Check #5]
- Feels like a not particularly bad time. [Encounter]
- You probably shouldn't of lost. [Encounter; after losing]
- You felt something on your back... ... it's a dog hair. [Neutral]
- It probably shouldn't have said "shouldn't of". [Neutral; after losing]
- Smells like Sans. [Neutral]
- The battlefield is heating up! ... by 0.1 degrees. [Neutral]
- Sans looks like he's getting ready to Sans. [Neutral]
- Sans chilling.
- Sans using a comb.
- Sans dancing.
- Sans riding a bulldozer after the protagonist clears the battle or attempts to attack him in order to make them lose.
- The flavor texts "You shouldn't of lost." and "It probably shouldn't have said "shouldn't of"." that appear after losing to Sans may be a reference to one of Susie and Ralsei's interactions in Chapter 1 of Deltarune. After choosing who should eat the salsa, Susie says she is weakened by hunger, but that "[Ralsei] really shouldn't of" annoyed her. Ralsei corrects her phrasing, though Lancer and Susie herself disregard him.
- Sans's dance in this battle closely resembles the dance that his Deltarune counterpart is seen engaging in with Toriel at the end of Chapter 4.
