Redacted

From Undertale Wiki

Redacted[note 1] is an inaccessible character in Undertale. The nature of their appearance suggests a connection to W.D. Gaster. Though, it is very likely that Redacted is cut content, as it is behind a Dogcheck, similar to other test or cut rooms.

Profile

Appearance

Redacted is a ghostly figure. The center of their body, from top to bottom, is completely white, as if redacted out. The rest of their body mostly consists of lines with no color between them, but, if the lines are interpreted to contain black, Redacted resembles a hunched figure wearing a cloak or coat, or possibly long, drooping hair.

Main story

Redacted appears in the inaccessible room_water_redacted. They are initially invisible, but they come into view upon approaching. When interacted with, they only say "* [redacted]" in lowercase Wingdings,[1] a font that is only used elsewhere in room_gaster.

In addition, Redacted also appears in a room that supposedly housed a horse stable. There would be a trash can where a key can be found; if the key is brought to the stable, Redacted appears[2] and says "* x" in Wingdings.

Outside of Undertale

Merchandise

Redacted is featured on the cover of the iam8bit's Undertale Vinyl Soundtrack. Unlike the mystery man, which was included on the provisional cover but replaced by a SAVE point in September 2016, Redacted was never removed from the cover.[3][4]

Notes

  1. Internally referred to as spr_redacted_a in the game files and obj_redacted_a in the game files, but this character is not named in game.
