Muffet
Don't look so blue, my deary~
... I think purple is a better look on you! Ahuhuhu~Muffet, when changing the color of the protagonist's SOUL to purple
Muffet (JP: マフェット) is a miniboss in Hotland, who owns an expensive Spider Bake Sale. She appears to be the leader of the underground's spiders.
Muffet is an anthropomorphic spider monster with periwinkle or lavender skin, five eyes, six arms, and two legs. She wears red rompers with buttons in the front, a red ribbon across her chest, as well as twin pigtails in her hair. She is also shown holding two teacups with her top pair of hands and two teapots with her middle pair.
Her "pet" appears to be a giant muffin with a face on the frosting part, as well as spider legs sticking out of the sides.
Muffet is greedy, stingy, intimidating and hypocritical, although with a courteous style of speaking. Even so, she seems malicious when she is crossed, something that occasionally triggers the encounter against her. Muffet has a tendency to make morbid or inappropriate statements, such as commenting on the protagonist's possible fate in being used to make food.
Muffet's name appears to be referencing the children's nursery rhyme Little Miss Muffet, in which a young girl eating cottage cheese is scared away by a spider.

Muffet and her spider bake sale is on Floor 3 in Hotland, before the puzzle hub vent area. Her counterfeit wares costs 9999G, and consists of a croissant and a donut.
Muffet later appears past the Spider Entrance SAVE Point, in her cobwebbed lair. At its center, she attacks the protagonist.

In the battle, Muffet explains she was warned by someone about the protagonist's arrival. She was offered money in exchange for the protagonist's SOUL, which she intends to use to reunite the spider clans by purchasing a "heated limo" for the Ruins spiders to cross Snowdin. Eventually, Muffet receives a telegram from the spiders in the Ruins, with its contents varying depending on the protagonist's actions. Muffet concludes that the protagonist does not hate spiders and lets them go, apologizing and jokingly offering to wrap them up in her web or let them play with her pet again.
Alternatively, if the protagonist had bought an item from the bake sale in the Ruins and then used it during the fight, she accuses the protagonist of stealing before receiving the telegram immediately afterwards. If the protagonist has purchased at least one of the items from her bake sale in Hotland, she thanks the protagonist instead of fighting them.
If the protagonist decides to kill her instead, a spider crawls into view and places a flower in the place where Muffet died.
In the True Pacifist Route's epilogue, the protagonist can return to her lair to speak with her, whereupon she informs the protagonist that the bake sale was a success and that she raised enough money to have a heated limo transport all the spiders from the Ruins. Depending on how much money the protagonist has spent at the bake sales, Muffet can also afford various other things for the spiders with the remaining money.

Muffet does not appear at her bake sale. When the protagonist encounters her, she laments that she cannot use them in her recipes because she considers them rotten, but states that spoiled ingredients can always be discarded. During the battle, if she is not killed right away, Muffet first says that the protagonist is scaring away all her customers, thus not letting them leave. She then speaks of Alphys trying to get her to evacuate Hotland because of the danger posed by the protagonist, and states that she refused. Muffet regrets that she did not capture Alphys, for she says she would have made "a juicy donut".
She eventually lets the protagonist go after receiving a telegram from the spiders in the Ruins. She concludes that they have not hurt any spiders even if they are a "hyper-violent murderer"; Muffet is the only spider enemy the protagonist encounters. Purchasing an item from the Hotland bake sale does not abort the Genocide Route. Muffet mentions that the protagonist donated, but attacks them regardless out of suspicion. If she is spared, the Genocide Route is aborted and she does not appear again as an NPC.
Muffet was a bought-in character during the Kickstarter designed by Michelle Czajkowski, the creator of the webcomic Ava's Demon. According to Czajkowski, Muffet's age is unknown.[2][3]
Even though the fight against Muffet had already underwent several changes during development, Toby Fox believes the fight may still be too difficult.[4]

Although Muffet does not appear in Deltarune directly, she is referenced in Chapter 4 through the GoldWidow item, a golden spider which gathers coins, reducing the money gained from winning battles.

- When interacting with Muffet after battling her, her laughing animation stops and resets to her initial sprite image.
- In the True Pacifist ending credits, Muffet's pigtails appear below the ribbon on her hair instead of being placed on the ribbons.
mus_smile, the audio accompanying the text inroom_gaster, is a reversed, slowed-down and looped-over version of Muffet's laughter.[6]- Muffet[7] has an unused white description intended for the True Pacifist ending credits.
- On the Genocide Route, the game may crash after Muffet's "dinner" attack due to attempting to load an attack that does not exist. This may be related to the use of debug mode, and the "skip attack" shortcut within.
- The internal flag for Muffet's donations increases after her battle based on the final bribe's cost, as opposed to the sum of money used for the bribe.[8] As a result, her dialogue in the True Pacifist epilogue can only say that the spiders sold nothing[9] if the protagonist struggles with 1G or less to lower the bribe price to 1G or less.[10]
- If the protagonist's last battle before Muffet resulted in at least one enemy kill, the game will incorrectly assume she has been killed, even if the protagonist spares her. This does not prevent a Genocide Route from being aborted.[11]

I also think I made Muffet a bit too difficult. She was already 'nerfed' a few times during development, so I thought it was enough lol

We've finally raised enough to rescue all the spiders inside of the RUINS.
And we'll also be able to afford...!
... nothing, because we only sold one donut.
