Loren
Loren[1] is a minor character in Undertale. They ask the protagonist an assortment of questions about stars.[2]
Loren is a small monster. They have a rounded, teardrop shaped body, and they have two small legs. They have two beady eyes, and their skin is a white-tan color.
Loren is fascinated with stars, but has no knowledge about the nature of them. They know that the shining stones in Waterfall are called stars,[3] and they know that real stars can be seen on the surface,[4] but that is where their knowledge ends. They are uncertain on whether stars can be interacted with, what they look like up close, or even whether stars are alive.[2] This makes them very curious.
Loren's name is a homophone of the typically feminine given name Lauren.
They are found to the right of Sans's telescope. If spoken to, they question the protagonist on stars and the nature of them.[2] Bringing an umbrella to them prompts them to ask if the protagonist is holding a star.[5] If Undyne is killed, they tell the protagonist that one of the stars faded out, asking them what that means.[3]
During the True Pacifist Route epilogue, they conclude it is now possible to go and see real stars, although they still do not know what stars are.[4]
Loren was created as a guest NPC by Colin MacDougall.[1]
