Papyrus date

From Undertale Wiki

After defeating Papyrus, the protagonist is given the option to either hang out or go on a date with him, depending on whether they flirted with him during their battle. Doing this unlocks the opportunity to hang out with Undyne after her battle, and continues the quest line for the True Pacifist Route.

Initiation

To unlock the event, the protagonist must first spare Papyrus, after which he then relocates to the front of his house. Upon interacting with Papyrus, he guides the protagonist to the house and enters. The protagonist can explore the house while Papyrus provides commentary on the objects the protagonist inspects.

Papyrus relocates to the center of his room upon entering it. To initiate the hangout, the protagonist must interact with Papyrus and agree to begin the event.

Event

Papyrus introduces the event and brandishes a book that is stated to provide instructions for hanging out or dating. The first step is to press [MENU] to bring up the HUD. The event halts until the player does so, but Papyrus eventually continues the event after waiting long enough.

After pressing [MENU], the HUD appears, which shows a fluctuating "REEL IT IN" meter, a "POPULATION" graph, an "EGG", a dog radar, a "CRIME" heat map, and a clock. The clock's time of day and day of the week matches the clock on the player's device.

The second step is to ask the protagonist to hang out or go on a date. The protagonist can answer either yes or no once prompted, and the event continues regardless of their choice.

The third step is to "put on nice clothes to show you care". Here, Papyrus notices that the protagonist is wearing clothing and calls out the armor they currently have equipped. He takes it as a sign that the protagonist had wanted to date or hang out with him from the beginning, to which the protagonist can answer either yes or no. The event continues regardless of their choice.

The HUD changes as Papyrus intensifies the event.

The protagonist's "FRIENDSHIP" or "DATING" meter rises, and the HUD is replaced with a single "TENSION" graph. Papyrus takes this as a challenge and changes into his "secret style". Papyrus asks the protagonist for their thoughts on the outfit, to which they can respond "I love it" or "I hate it". Either choice increases the "DATING" or "FRIENDSHIP" power and progresses the event.

Papyrus then halts the event and tasks the protagonist with finding the secret hidden within his clothes. The player can then move the SOUL around and interact with various parts of Papyrus's body:

  • Interacting with Papyrus's shoes prompts him to comment that, although human SOULs are stronger than monster SOULs, the soles of their shoes are the same.
  • Interacting with Papyrus's legs prompts him to comment that there is no secret to his legs.
  • Interacting with Papyrus's hands prompts him to comment that the protagonist is holding his hand.
  • Interacting with Papyrus's arms prompts him to comment that the protagonist is "caressing" his biceps with a floating heart.
  • Interacting with Papyrus's shirt prompts him to explain that he modified the shirt to say "COOL".
  • Attempting to leave the screen prompts Papyrus to state that they cannot.
  • Interacting with Papyrus's head prompts him to reveal the secret under his hat, which is a present.

Upon revealing the present, the protagonist is prompted to either open it or not open it. Choosing not to open the present causes Papyrus to open it instead, revealing a plate of spaghetti.

Papyrus asks if the protagonist knows what the plate contains, to which the protagonist can respond with "Of course" or "No idea". Either choice causes Papyrus to describe the plate in detail.

The protagonist is then prompted to either eat the spaghetti or refuse. Choosing to eat the spaghetti causes the narration to describe the taste as "indescribable". Regardless of their choice, however, the protagonist's "DATING" or "FRIENDSHIP" power overflows, and Papyrus exclaims that they are either "completely obsessed" or "madly in love" with him.

Conclusion

The event concludes with Papyrus expressing his feelings.

  • If the protagonist is dating Papyrus, he reject's the protagonist apparent advances toward him and encourages the protagonist to find someone as great as him.
  • If the protagonist is hanging out with Papyrus, he suggests hanging out with Undyne in order to spread out their "friend-energy".

Either way, Papyrus leaves the room and gives the protagonist their phone number, allowing them to call him on their Cell Phone. Following the battle against Undyne, he relocates to the front of her house with the intention of hanging out with her.
