Talk:Eight humans
Wasn't it already confirmed that red souls represent determination? I mean, I get that determination is what lets a human soul persist, but every save point mentions determination in some way, and when you get a game over, you're told to stay determined (well, most of the time, anyway). - That's exactly why it's unconfirmed. We know that all humans have determination, so there's no way to know if the determination-based messages Frisk and Chara get (the game overs are Chara's memories) are specific to humans with red SOULs. - Yeah, but... Occam's Razor aside, there's also the Ball Game. The Red Flag shows up when you "succeed", and continues to show up when the outcome has become predetermined. Linkhyrule5 (talk) 11:36, 10 April 2023 (UTC)
- I have just replied to one of tobies recent posts about the email-newsletter he released asking him what the type of soul the player in both UT and DR has, mainly because he's working on DR now and the person who wrote this obviously needs to be told from the creator it is indeed determination. - You won't get a response. Fortunately, you are completely correct that there is no proof in the game itself to convince us, so it won't change without a response. -Jacky720 (t|c) 12:41, 27 April 2023 (UTC)

Something I noticed a while back is that during the Omega Flowey battle, while you're fighting the human souls, there are actually two souls per section, one during the attack and one while healing; cyan uses the knives but when they're replaced with bandages orange shows up, purple sends negative words your way but the nice ones come from green etc etc. It's the same for all six of them, and it's always the one that would attack you next that shows up, looping back around at the end. This indicates to me that it's not the attacking soul, but the next soul along, that's responding to your call and helping you, which really feels like an important distinction.
Can someone confirm this? I've checked across several recordings and played through it multiple times myself, and it seems to be consistent, but I haven't seen anyone else mention it so I want to make sure I'm not missing something before I go making any big changes.
Shouldn't the whole "Soul Traits" part be axed, or at the very least, put under HEAVY strutiny?
Soul Traits are super prevalant in the fandom, but there's no proof of their existence. Nothing that proves the ball game colors are even meant to correspond with the souls in the first place. (Even if I'd argue that it's likely)
But more importantly, there's no reason to believe that these are "Soul Traits" and not just the traits of the specific 6 humans who fell before. They're never even referred to as "traits" in game.
The rest of the Ball Game dialogue describes stuff pertaining to the humans themselves. "Hopping and Twirling" for the Blue Soul, who has the ballerina belongings, "fists-first" for the Orange Soul, who has the Tough Glove, etc.
There is zero reason to believe that the ending listing means these are traits of the soul, and not traits of the specific humans.
It's basically all speculation, and feels disingenuous to include the way that it is here, presented as fact.
At the least, it needs some sort of clarification that the "traits" could also be referring to the specific humans, and not the souls. At most, it needs axed entirely.
Also, side note, the rest of the page refers to Chara as "the fallen human" or "the first human", and Frisk is referred to as "the protagonist", yet the Red Soul part for some reason tacks on "Chara" and "Frisk" despite the rest of the page's style avoiding saying those names (and for good reason).
No reason to have those names there when we all know who is being referred to when we see "the first human"/"the eighth human". Those should be removed.—Preceding unsigned comment added by CosmicYes2 (talk • contribs) (please sign your comments using ~~~~)
- Nothing that proves the ball game colors are even meant to correspond with the souls in the first place.
- I'd say some things are heavily implied by the game. It conveniently uses the same colors for traits as it does for SOULs, you don't need the game to explicitly spell out "the human associated with the light blue color had patience as their defining trait."
- They're never even referred to as "traits" in game.
- "Patience", "Bravery", "Integrity" etc. are words describing human traits in the context of Ball Game. How else would you call them?
- But more importantly, there's no reason to believe that these are "Soul Traits" and not just the traits of the specific 6 humans who fell before.
- The SOULs are the humans. The associated humans, when we play the game, are dead, and the only trace left of them are their SOULs. The article is also called Eight Humans.
- the Red Soul part for some reason tacks on "Chara" and "Frisk" despite the rest of the page's style avoiding saying those names (and for good reason).
- The reason is spoilers. By the time you're reading the table on Eight Humans, I'd argue you're pretty much already spoiled. I guess someone didn't find the terminology used obvious and decided to add that in, and I don't see particular urge in removing these.

Resolved Light blue is a different hue from the color displayed; the color displayed more closely resembles something like #0FF (cyan) than #55F (light blue) Falloir (talk) 22:36, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
- The game uses "light blue" in dialogue, so that's what we call it. KockaAdmiralac (talk) 22:38, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
