Someone should really add the fact that Cara is a real Irish name - I'm shocked this isn't already here. It means "friend", by the way, which is the main reason I'm sure it's an intentional choice. (Yes the name is usually spelled Cara but that doesnt make a difference - and besides Asriel is usually spelled Azrael.) This would also confirm the pronunciation as being in line with the Japanese translation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Theprim3stSkeletron (talkcontribs) (please sign your comments using ~~~~)

The primary origin of the name "Chara" is clearly an abbreviation of "character." If you do decide to add this, it would likely only belong in trivia (in line with the numerous explanations for the Boss Monsters's names). I don't think it confirms anything about pronunciation, unless you care to elaborate on how the Japanese translation is involved. [REDACTED] Also Jacky720 (t|c) 16:08, 17 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
When I mentioned the pronunciation I just mean that the Irish name is pronounced "KAHR-ə", which is in line with how their name is transliterated into Japanese ("キャラ Kyara"), so it isn't pronounced like "care" or "charmander" as I've heard some people pronounced it. Probably not important enough to note that on the page though. Obviously "character" is the main origin of the name but given the 4 or 5 different meanings behind Asriel's name I figure it's probably an intentional choice. I just come across the story of Beth Thomas, the "psychopath little girl" and even tho you can read on Reddit that Toby Fox never knew of it, similarities with our beloved demon are just too much to not mention here IMO, down to the colours of the T-shirt. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Holopsiconpsicon (talkcontribs) (please sign your comments using ~~~~)

The story you linked does not seem very convincing. Yes, Chara could have possibly suffered abuse as a child, but I have no idea how they connect to that child in particular. -- Cube-shaped garbage can 17:35, 29 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

We've decided the bit is more impactful if not overly repeated, but thank you for the feedback! KockaAdmiralac (talk) 11:33, 4 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

It should be mentioned more clearly that the "probable" canon name of "chara" is Kris Dreemurr and the text "The true name" when writing chara as the name of the fallen human is initially intended as a joke referring to the default/code name of the character. ~2026-392097 (unregistered) (talk) 10:26, 4 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Kris is not at all a probable canon name. The origin of the name Chara is explained under Etymology. KockaAdmiralac (talk) 11:32, 4 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
