Hoi there! I'm Lance the simp, but you can just call me Lance. I've read through almost the entire wiki, so I'm a bit of a nerd on the game mechanics and little details. I love studying theories, so if you have any that I might be interested in. or want to hear on of mine, jut message me!
Here's on of my best theories:
Down a Rabbit's Hole
I think we've all found ourselves in internet rabbit holes, digging up truths and lies alike after researching the answer to a simple question on google. That happened to me today in extreme measure, while I was doing research on Undertale's setting for a comic idea. We all know that the Fallen Human, or Chara, fell down Mt. Ebbot during 201x. But what does that mean? How long before the events of the game was it? When exactly were Monsters trapped beneath the Underground? If the Human timeline in Undertale's Universe is in fact parallel to our own, as I suspect, with the addition of the race of Monsters, I may have the answer.
I'm sure all of us have at least heard of World Wars I and II. I heard a lot more than a child should growing up, because of my step-father being a Marine solider in the U.S military, and living in military-base housing. World war I lasted for 4 years(July 28, 1914 – November 11, 1918), and World war II lasted six years(September 1, 1939 – September 2, 1945), with a interwar gap of around 10 years separating them. You may be wondering where I'm going with this. Or maybe you know where, you just want to know why. Here's my claim, fellow fans and theorists; One of these wars was the war between Man and Monster-kind, and this post is explaining why.
DISCLAIMER: So, as I said above, this theory was made, in part, as story building for a comic I want to make. Not all of the ideas I came up with are cannon, necessarily, but all of them are based off of what we see in Undertale, as well as our world's human history. I will try to eliminate anything that is strictly cannon, but I might miss a few things, so feel free to leave constructive criticism on that matter. If you have ideas on this topic specifically, that contradict my own, I would love to hear them, but only if you have evidence to support your claim and prove mine wrong. If you're just telling me I'm wrong, I will politely ignore you.
First thing's first in proving a claim, gather the facts. Do keep in mind that this theory only applies if Undertale's timeline is parallel to ours.
- Chara couldn't have died any sooner than 1960, because that's when cassette tapes were invented. Cassette tapes are found in true lab of the Dreemurr's interacting with them, so obviously they had to be alive at that point.
- The internet was made accessible to the common people around the 1990's, which means that's the earliest the Underground could've gotten it.
- Since the Underground gets the majority of it's tech from the human garbage, it's safe to assume that the tech they get must be at least a little outdated.
- Asriel and Chara were both at least ten when Chara had their idea. Their vocabulary and thought processes were fairly mature, while still having the playfulness of a child.
- Mt. Ebbot is most likely an inactive volcano, because it doesn't seem to belong to any mountain range.
- If you look on the wiki, the page about the surface has a sweet little tid-bit about the possible location of Ebbot: "While it is never directly stated where Mount Ebott is, Vegetoid's check text reading "Not monitored by the USDA" makes the location likely to be somewhere in the United States."
- Mount Hood, located in Oregon, in close to major city Portland, and is also close to Mt. Jefferson, a smaller, slightly less significant mountain. These fit the requirements of the surface viewed from just beyond the barrier, pictured below. Mount Hood is also surrounded by a forest, just like Ebbot.

So, in conclusion...
...
I'm an absolute mad man, and wasted like 8 hours of my time researching this, and at this point I'm so damn tired of actually making sense of my thoughts. Piece together what you can, asking me specific questions about what you don't know or want clarified. This was absolute hell to put together, so I hope you appreciate it.
