User:Virus3000/Goner NPCs

From Undertale Wiki

This page catalogs the various Goner NPCs and Gaster Follower characters, which aren't apart of the main game. These characters appear in various spots after changing the game's Fun Value, and will disappear after their dialogue exchange with Frisk. All of these characters have some form of connection to the mysterious and illusive W. D. Gaster.

Goner NPCs

Goner NPCs are NPCs that appear after changing the game's Fun Value. They appear to be grey versions of pre-existing NPCs with horrific designs, such as Clam Girl's head being changed to a giant eyeball. After talking to them, they vanish.

Goner Kid

A gray version of Monster Kid (spr_mkid_goner) can appear in Room 91 (room_water7) on a dock right before the room where Undyne first throws spears at the protagonist if the fun value is greater than 90.

Their dialogue is as follows:

  • Have you ever thought about a world where everything is exactly the same...
    • Except you don't exist?
    • Everything functions perfectly without you...
    • Ha, ha... The thought terrifies me.
  • ... [Talk again]
  • An umbrella...? But it's not raining. [If holding an umbrella]
    • Ha, ha...
    • You know, that does make me feel a little better about this.
    • Thank you.
    • Please forget about me.
  • Please don't think about this anymore. [Talk again, with umbrella]

Goner Clam Girl

Goner Clam Girl, also known as Clam Goner, is a Waterfall NPC exclusive to the Nintendo Switch version of Undertale, where Clam Girl gets some new dialogue in the epilogue of the True Pacifist Route. At the final line of her dialogue, Clam Girl turns into Goner Clam Girl. She then disappears with the same sound effect as Mystery Man and Gaster Follower 2, which shows a possible connection to Gaster.

Her dialogue consists of three lines:

  • So you never met my neighbor's daughter.
  • But please don't despair. Because the time that you will meet her...
  • ... is fast approaching.

Gaster's Followers

Similar to the Goner NPCs, Gaster's Followers are grey versions of existing NPCs with grotesque appearance alterations that appear after changing the game's Fun Value. These characters however do not have "Goner" in their file names, rather listed as "Gaster Follower" 1-3. These NPCs dialogue revolves around the story W. D. Gaster, whom was the Royal Scientist before Alphys. After talking to them, they will as well vanish.

Gaster Follower 1

Gaster Follower 1 (spr_g_follower_1) appears outside of elevator L3 if the fun value is 62. This follower is a gray, emotionless version of the ficus licker NPC. They have a double cross on their chest instead of four dots and talk about how Gaster's life was cut short after he fell into one of his creations. They later wonder if Alphys will end up the same way as Gaster. This NPC disappears once the protagonist leaves the room.

Their dialogue is as follows:

  • It makes sense why ASGORE took so long to hire a new Royal Scientist.
  • After all, the old one... Doctor Gaster. What an act to follow!
  • They say he created the CORE.
  • However, his life... was cut short.
  • One day, he fell into his creation, and...
  • Will Alphys end up the same way?

Gaster Follower 2

Gaster Follower 2 (spr_g_follower_2) appears outside of elevator R1 if the fun value is 61. This follower is a gray version of the guy normally found near Hotland's Spider Bake Sale, with a talking head in place of the donut. This follower speaks in rhymes through the head in their hand. They talk about how the old royal scientist, W. D. Gaster, suddenly vanished without a trace and was shattered across time and space. They immediately disappear once they mention that they are holding a piece of him, playing the same sound effect while disappearing that plays when the NPC assumed to be Gaster disappears in Room 268. Unlike Sans, their disappearance does not include a black screen interlude.

Their dialogue is as follows:

  • Alphys might work faster. But the old Royal Scientist, Doctor W.D. Gaster?
  • One day, he vanished without a trace.
  • They say he shattered across time and space.
  • Ha Ha... how can I say so without fear?
  • I'm holding a piece of him right here.

Gaster Follower 3

Gaster Follower 3 (spr_g_follower_3) appears outside of elevator L2 if the fun value is 63. This NPC is a talking face sprouting out of the ground and is its own character, unlike the other followers. They talk about how Gaster's life was cut short after an experiment went wrong. They then stop and mention that they should not gossip about someone who is listening. This NPC disappears once the protagonist leaves the room.

Their dialogue is as follows:

  • I understand why ASGORE waited so long to hire a new royal scientist.
  • The previous one... Dr. Gaster.
  • His brilliance was irreplaceable.
  • However, his life... was cut short.
  • One day, his experiments went wrong, and...
  • Well, I needn't gossip.
  • After all, it's rude to talk about someone who's listening.

Trivia

  • The striped bird in Deltarune, a spinoff alternate universe by Toby Fox, appears in the same pose and shape as Follower 3. As the connection between Deltarune and Undertale has been kept vague,[1] the shape of the Follower being that of a sprouted face or the body of the striped bird is currently unknown because of the monochromatic color scheme obscuring the details of the supposed legs and neck.
  • In the game files, there is a dialogue of Goner Kid saying "Yo! You're a ??? too, right?". This dialogue is unused in-game but can be seen with debug mode on. Additionally, they reset the fun value to 0 when talked to with an umbrella, and no longer reappear when returning to the room.
