User:The JoTS/Blog:Napstablook's more than just Napster...?

From Undertale Wiki

I have previously given some brief consideration regarding Napstablook's name...

Napstablook battle idle.gif

—I ultimately came to the groundbreaking conclusion that blook sounds a little like bleak (in reference to his personality). It didn't even occur to me that Napsta sounds like Napster. ...And "that was that," for a while.

...Then I went reading through Papyrus's trivia and read about Papyrus struggling to recall Napstablook's name. One of his guesses of Napstablook's name was "Spooky Bloo Bloo." This means nothing– to a normal human. However, as a child in the early 2000's, I read that as "Spooky Bloo Bloo" and I instantly recalled one of my first thoughts about Napstablook's overworld sprite– he vaguely looks like this fella. Bloo from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends!

I mean compare the too (spelling intentional). The designs of the two characters can both be generally described as ...domed cylinder, er, thingies ...with different color palettes. Which almost renders my whole revelation thus far baseless– the design of one was not inspired by the other. Basically, they're both just rip-off blinkies. Not even mentioning the fact that the two characters are polar opposite in personality (and climate– the cold damp of Waterfall and the extreme heat in Topeka).

But what of the name? I mean, the name Papyrus came up with is the whole reason for the creation of this post. Well, you see: NAPSTABLOOK. Utterly amazing (that you read this far). ...But really, because I'm getting tired typing this:

  • Master Bloo
  • Masta Bloo
  • Napstablook

Master Bloo being the common nickname given to Bloo by another main character "Mr. Herriman."

Coinsidence? Absolutely not. I mean, "coinsidence" is not even a word.

It's a mere coincidence. An interesting coincidence. ...Well, it is at least interesting to a sleep deprived person typing this at 4 in the morning.

tl;dr Napstablook from you-know-what and Bloo from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends are cut from the same shape and have somewhat similar names if you happen to slur words like someone operating on fumes. That drew enough parallels to me. Also, the person typing this is operating on fumes. Good night.

In case it wasn't clear, this post is a sort of "spoof."
