I'm wilting... I'm withering away... we literally know Asgore's favorite tea in Undertale was Golden flower herbal tea.
We know from context clues that golden flowers are the flowers Chara wanted to see from their hometown, which would mean they are different from the buttercups they poisoned themselves with... coughs weakly
There are actually a decent amount of flowers that have edible petals/fruits/leaves that also have toxic seeds. The ending of Chapter 5 can Evoke Chara-isms without it being the same flower they poisoned themselves with.
You would think that, but I keep seeing fan aus/fanworks where people say Flowery is a buttercup or citing the ranunculin in buttercups for ooh angsty drama/poeticism / doing edgy Kris angst stuff without any awareness that golden flowers=buttercups isn't canon (actively disproven) and it's turning me into the jokerrrrrrrr
Everyone needs to get more creative about what kind of poison is in golden flower seeds and do theory-crafting about the traits of them more... I'm rotting away... everyone needs to get more creative and check sources before I get an ulcer.
I don't even mind people going 'ooh hoo hoo wouldn't it be fucked up if my au had Flowery be a buttercup'. The difference is that would be done with the awareness that he's not a buttercup.
Also the answer to 'did they not pay attention in UNDYNE date and true lab tapes???' is : considering the theories I see half of the time that misunderstand how Determination works, probably not!
I've been around and about since Undertale, so sometimes I talk about canon stuff like 'Asgore kills himself on successive Neutral runs in Undertale, so that's probably partially why Asgore is associated with Yellow in Chapter Five' and people get startled and act like I made that up.
after reading all the neutral route stuff on the wiki (I’m not doing all that for some dialogue) yeah that makes sense, and I can definitely see the projection on yellow (I mean, just look at asgore’s situation in DELTARUNE, he is not doin good!)
Through the power of having a text dump of Undertale and Deltarune up in a side tab, anything is possible. (I also just keep a bunch of random lore tidbits I like saved in playlists because funny or fun. or 'harrowing but relevant to character discussions' (Asgore factoid))
Actually, if I'm not mistaken, Chapter 5 has more evidence for the red soul being Hope.
For example, look at these Check texts for a few other flowers:
A chef whose kindness precedes. Seemingly no interest in speaking.
A know-it-all that generally only perseveres at studying.
A cowboy with his own peculiar brand of justice.
Meanwhile, Flowery's Check text says this:
A being taken shape from the Golden Flower. Everything about him is an illusion... but, with hope, can he make it real!?
This, through its coloring, makes it clear that the Golden Flower (AKA Flowery) represents the red soul, while also implying that the red soul represents Hope.
I WAS thinking about that, but what about the fact that he’s a golden flower? Of course, we all know it’s a parallel to flowey, but would that mean Flowey represents hope? how does that connect to the red soul of mystery and vagueness? Sure, flowey is closely connected to chara, but they’re different characters.
