Who is our most likely Knight candidate?

Without disregarding ANY abilities of The Knight, what's most likely?

I think The Knight is probably Dess reincarnated as a Darkner, which explains why she's missing and why The Knight has so many abilities a Lightner doesn't.

I think it's dess but, like, idk corrupted by the angel? Maybe the angel is using her body and then her consciousness is the voice in the code? The way I think of it is like the enchantress from shovel knight, if that makes any sense

Do we have any Light World designs for the Amalgamate Knight?

What

Haven't heard this theory yet…

Honestly

Visual evidence points to Dess (for example something using her body and a part of her mind (hence the aurafarming and the teenage behaviour) while her conscious is stuck within "the “eternal dark” that UNUSED describes.

While the other stuff points to Carol. The weird caller saying “I'll be there soon” and her arriving almost immediately; her “investigation” together with Asgore (who has a black shard btw); the call at the end of chapter 4 that is from the caller in the normal route and Carol in the weird route; YOU in the red text maybe refering to Kris while they definitely are collaborating with the knight; the sudden cold appearing when she enters; and all other stuff

Honestly I can't really pick between the two but I think that Dess would be more logical while Carol being a great theory but still not so solid as Dess.

If I had to guess, I would say "some Dess-adjacent creature."

Definitely think it’s Dess, but it’s nearly guaranteed to be a holiday now that we’ve seen it has antlers

Rip to all the funny knight theories they will be missed :krisplat:

For Dess:

  • gacharoom_unknown seems to imply that she possesses a Shadow Crystal
  • Prominent allusions to Dess in the Cold Place
    • 1225 code
    • Christmas theming
    • Family break-apart scene started with Dess
  • The Black Knife takes the form of a bat at first appearance, which may be foreshadowed by the song Raise Up Your Bat
    • Dess owns both wiffle and baseball bats
  • Personality seems to align with that of an edgy teenager (aura farming)
  • Black deer sprite for the Sword Route board in the game files
    • Replaces the black mirroring monster if the variable toriel is set to true. The ice mage is replaced with a brown deer, and there is an unused blue deer sprite in the files which would likely represent Carol.
  • Dess’s room has stars, aligning with the Knight’s element
  • Noelle being used as Queen's replacement Knight would parallel her sister

For Carol:

  • Carol is the most obvious choice for the evil phone voice
  • Provides an explanation for the katana in her room, and Asgore’s possession of a black shard
  • She is known to be a formidable fighter
  • Many Dess arguments can be spun to support Carol if taken to indicate her grief over the loss of Dess
  • Might be more believable to be a culprit than someone who was missing for years, and it would be a bit odd for Carol to be in a conspiracy with her missing daughter
  • The tines of her antlers are pointed like the Knight’s are
  • Known to already have access to the Shelter

Personally I am a Dess truther, but Carol has some good arguments. I don’t think Papyrus Knight or Rudy Knight have any merit.

I personally really think that Carol is actually just a red herring. Toby had to put someone in to throw people off, right? The Knight is this huge mystery that would be weird if the answer was that straightforward. It's gotta be something people wouldn't guess, or at least something people said no to in the beginning or something like that. Also, side note- we don't know if the caller in the Holiday house and at the end of chapter four even is the Knight. It could just be Carol, it could be the Knight who just sent Carol during the Holiday house scene, but then why would they say I'll be right there? I think that Carol is the caller and Dess is the Knight personally, but I'm open to other viewpoints.

It's Nubert. He always has been.

But seriously it's definitely a Holiday, Dess more “visually”, but Carol more “overall plot”

if it is dess, then everything pointing to dess makes sense
the stuff implying dess is the knight, is foreshadowing, that dess is the knight.....crazy.....

if its not dess, then those things are red herrings
like, if the swords very unsubtle resemblance to a bat in some sprites is not to do with dess, its deliberately supposed to throw you off, is what i think

ditto for carol. if it is her, then the stuff pointing to her being the knight was pointing to her being the knight. if its not her, then the katana and whatnot are red herrings, youre meant to think it could be her

if i had to take a strong stance id say dess has more merit, but honestly its a little early to call imo. you shouldnt be too confident when youve only played just over half the game, thats just setting yourself up to look silly later, lol

It’s a stretch, but the absence of contact with Asriel leads me to think it’s him.

I mean… how convenient for the internet to go out right around when all this starts happening.

Because Dess and Carol Knighters LOVE to ignore any and all evidence disproving their theories instead of rebuttaling it..

Would it not be simpler to assume it’s an original character?
