Revisiting the idea of splitting "Mike" page into two

Basically, the crux of the idea is to make two pages, one for the "Mikes" impersonator trio, one for the currently unseen "Mike" character that knew Spamton and Tenna.

This was originally proposed here: https://undertale.wiki/d/t/should-the-three-mikes-have-a-separate-article-from-the-real-mike/2147

I believe that now, upon the release of Chapter 5, this is a more valid proposal. This is since that the Tenna scene in Castle Town for if you kept him is near-confirmation that Mike is a real being outside of the impersonators. It tells us that he was a "jokester", that he warned Tenna about not signing the contract since he had a bad feeling about it, that he wasn't supposed to sign it, that he couldn't, and and if he did, something bad would happen. It also confirms that he cared about Spamton, and that after the contract was signed, Tenna felt like he's "not really here"; this is as close as we can get to a straight confirmation that the real one left after the Spamton deal.

I KNOW WE REALLY SHOULD

@Remex_Remige what's ur opinion now? I still agree on the split

I care about consistency most of all. I don't care if the "original" Mike gets split from the trio or if Pizzarina gets merged with Blue Ears, but one of those two things has to happen.

I agree with the Real Mike split

@LJorSomething If consensus is to split, can we use your userspace draft as a base?

It's a good thing to see the proposal I did several months ago is still remembered and wasn't discarded. I find having two diffent articles more efficient than having it all crammed on the same one; plus I've already made sure the links referring to the Mike impersonators link to "Mikes" rather than "Mike". If I could I'd do the split right now, but I'm not sure if this would break some policy I'm not knowledgeable of.

Bump. Any objections to the split? @DaniPine3 is willing to split so if we don't get any counterarguments I think we should just split as this thread is dying.

So does that mean I can make the split all by myself? Because If I can, I definitely will.

ask an admin, I’d recommend link or Kockadmiralac.

I agree it’s a good decision, but it kinda all comes back to them

@Link What's your take? Can we split? Full consensus here is to do so.

I'd like to hear more opinions before we go through with this. I'm not sure how many people would expect to land on a page documenting the yet-unseen entity when looking for "Mike" as opposed to landing on a page about the popular Mike trio with actual information on them.

There was some concerns about "Mikes" being confusing since it's a one-letter difference, but any other article name for them would also be conjectural.

Edit: My previous writing was bad.

The new article doesn't necessarily have to be called "Mikes". It could also be called Mike trio, or Mike impersonators. I don't think it would create much confussion since that's what hatnotes are for. Plus as I stated earlier this would make the article much less cluttered as it's essentially documenting two different things at once (the unknown "Mike" character who both Spamton and Tenna mention, and the Mike-themed secret boss that can be found in Chapter 4)

Apologies for the late reply, but for sure!

I'm going to be busy today but I want to give everyone here a heads-up in the mean time since this is related:

@F-sharp is dabbling on splitting team battles like Susie and Lancer. Meaning there might be a possibility of all the Mikes being split, but we'll have to see how this format will go...

Yes!

I was agonizing over the best way to document the flower fights in Chapter 5. This is the neatest solution.

If the articles on battles are going to be different from the articles on characters, does that mean that there should be both a new navbox and a new infobox for enemies and battles, as opposed to the current templates which are both for enemies and non-enemy characters?

To elaborate on this, all battles that involve two or more characters fighting together will have their own pages separate from the individual character pages. This would mean:

  • Susie and Lancer will have a separate duo battle page from Susie and Lancer.
  • Sweet, Cap'n, and K_K will each have individual pages separate from the Sweet Cap'n Cakes group page.
  • Lanino and Elnina will each have individual pages separate from the Lanino and Elnina group page.
  • Small Mike, Cat Mike, and Cowboy Hat Mike will each have individual pages separate from the Mike group page. Whether this means that a "real Mike" page will also be created is still up for discussion.
  • Each flower boss fight will have their own page separate from the individual flower pages.

Now this might be a separate post in the future, but since it involves the Mikes, I'm putting it here for now.
