Rename the Shadow Mantle Holder to Nightmare?

The latter is an internal name; the former is one we completely made up. Kris is also a "Shadow Mantle Holder" post-Sword Route anyway, so it isn't the best name, and it's in general clunky to say.

Unlike the whole Shadow Crystal Boss thing, where it makes sense to go against internal names, since the Knight's boss (due to it being unavoidable) can't be called one of those names, despite them and those other bosses clearly all being a specific type of boss, there is no need to make up a name here.

We already had a discussion about this.

Oh ok, sorry to waste your time.

Actually, I think the internal name of the Shadow Crystal Bosses are extra bosses?

And also I think that’s the canon confirmed name of the thing we call Shadow Crystal holders now that I think of it, but it wasn’t even an option on the poll, and I didn’t realize about the confirmation of Extra Boss until after we already voted…

You know how Chapter 4’s Weird Route confirms it with Susie? Spamton confirms the term is [EXTRA BOSS] in the Weird Route if you go to the door in Queen’s Mansion with him inside.

Though, I suppose since this is Spamton we’re talking about, it’s not as clear cut as it is with Susie’s “things took a weird route”, since we could argue [EXTRA BOSS] is a Spamtonified-synonym of the real term. But the fact it’s also what it’s called internally in Chapter 4…

Say, how accurate is the term “extra” boss? We know secret/hidden is no longer accurate because of the Knight, but what about “extra”? And would that include the Shadow Mantle Holder?

(File names don’t help us THAT much since they also have referred to it as secret and hidden bosses… But Spamton’s speech is the one time a term for the category has officially been used in-game. “Hidden bosses” in the Steam description just states there are bosses that are hidden, which… is accurate (Jevil, Shadow Mantle Holder). So if there is a definitive, official name, it’s “Extra Boss”, which is not even the term we used before the change to Shadow Mantle Holder)

Anyway, none of the internal names were confirmed. The closest we have is shadow_mantle_enemy.

“Enemy” is a suffix to nearly every battle, we have knight_enemy after all. So the canon, internal name is shadow_mantle, or Shadow Mantle. But… the enemy states they’re holding the Shadow Mantle, so they’re not THE Shadow Mantle. So we conclude it’s probably a shorthand for Shadow Mantle Holder. (mainchara is a shorthand for “main character”, Frisk.)
