Ralsei "Princess" Alias

It sounds like this discussion has erupted in the wiki Discord a couple of times now; there's a "Princess" alias listed in Ralsei's "Also Known As" list, from Flowery. However, Flowery seems to use this nickname for other characters on multiple occasions:

My personal take is that this doesn't seem like a very defining nickname/alias of Ralsei's, and is rather just a speech pattern of Flowery, and so we can pull it from Ralsei's infobox. But there haven't been any conclusions after a couple of Discord conversations so let's discuss here instead!

Reasons brought up for its inclusion on discord: the list would be more complete, Flowery uses it to refer to Ralsei only once and in a particularly important one on one scene, made even more peculiar by how Flowery ever only referred to him as "Raly" until then

Hi! It's me! Person who had this discussion on the discord! So firstly, unless you want to believe flowery is calling kris a princess instead of Ralsei who gets called a princess later, any instance of "Princesses" are referring to Susie and Ralsei. Secondly, the reason I think Princess deserves to be on Ralsei's wiki page is the textual importance (the prompt to watch this scene if you refuse at first literally notes it to be "important") of the "got it, princess?" scene. While any sort of coding can be interpreted, this scene and others following center around ralsei's own wants outside of the prophecy and making kris/susie happy. I believe the frequent use of the word princess within the chapter to Susie as well as Susie + Ralsei (not to mention the one time he asks if Kris wants him to be a princess too) is to set up for this scene, as while its normally a term flowery uses just on Susie, there's a level of teasing and emphasis on the Ralsei scene as if this isn't just him using it like he always does. This is a weird ruling for an alias, as its less so about it being used on him frequently and more about it being used on him Importantly, but I think if the prophecy can count so can Princess, both being fairly singular apart from Both having restructured variants from ralsei himself.

Also frankly, if RAL gets to be on there, so does princess. Please do not take this as opportunity to remove both.

That is all! Let me know if more details are needed. I understand the issue with the infrequency, but I think sense there's no other examples of ralsei being called something besides his name with so much emphasis it frames an entire scene and multiple following ones, slightly different ruling is valid just this once... plus it's really only slightly different.

Flowery, honestly, seems to be using it in the same context people use sign-offs like "Darling" or "Sweetie" (the Sweetie being used by Queen in the same capacity, in fact, towards several characters). In fact, Flowery uses it more directed at Susie overall than he does towards Ralsei by a signficant amount.

it isn't an exclusive nickname for Ralsei and I don't think it should be added to his nicknames, as it isn't exclusive to him. The other names are, so this one isn't consistent with it. It shouldn't be in his info box as a nickname, it doesn't meet the criteria.

It is different from the nickname of "RAL" because "RAL" is one Ralsei gave himself, so it technically counts, but it's pretty clear he wanted to put Ralsei, just had a character limit, so I would actually argue both should be removed.

Okay but transfem Ralsei

Raly is a nickname, Princess is just a verbal tick. It shouldn't be added, this just seems like it's trying to push an agenda.

Flowery is clearly calling all of them princesses like if you want to add it to Ralsei's infobox then you should also add it to Susie's as well as everyone's who he calls princess.

yeah that was the idea

yeah that was the idea

But if a character uses it for everyone, it isn't a nickname. It's just a thing they call people, like buddy, guy, friend, sweetie, darling, pal, etc.

If we start loosening the criteria to that, then these infoboxes are gonna get real cluttered to the point of being a useless mess. The entire point of the nickname box is to help characterize them and show relationships to other characters. This is a nothing burger.

This is like Kel from Good Burger calling everyone "dude."

Yeah yeah I actually meant what you said but worded it very wrong.
We shouldn't add that because that's just what Flowery calls everyone.

It is also worth noting, in a conversation between Ralsei and Seth in their BREAK, they talk about how Flowery uses words incorrectly and has an odd manner of speaking, which annoys both of them.

Flowery does seem to have a limited and very strange vocabulary, and is heavily coded as an Otome style love interest, so he probably, literally, can't say Prince, since he doesn't have a line for that. Everyone is just a princess to him - except for Asgore, his King and Oldbuddy.

Context like that is important to consider, but even then, he uses "Princess" 7 times it seems in the course of the game, 5 of those times it is directed at Susie, once at presumably the whole fun gamg, and then once to Ralsei, who is the only person present for him to talk to.

If we allow princess, then "loser" meets the same criteria... for every single person Lancer has talked to.

please assume good faith. this is an unnecessarily hostile way to get your point across.

see the opening of WP:INN - just because one alias is on there does not mean another alias should be; it can mean neither should be, and that's fine. if they both do get removed, it's not going to be a shifting of goalposts to avoid calling ralsei a princess, it's just continuing to enforce limitations we've been doing on infobox sections since 3+4 released.

According to Template:Infobox character - The Deltarune Wiki

Princess is literally a one-off in regards to Ralsei specifically, and is not noteworthy as it is used multiple times towards another character as well. It objectively does not fit the criteria.

By this logic, neither does RAL actually, and I think the removal of both is warranted. RAL is clearly just Ralsei trying to put his name, but there's a 3 character limit.

ASS on Susie's page also should be removed by this criteria, since it is also a singular use gag explictly. No one is calling Susie "Ass" and she isn't calling herself that. She just wrote that to annoy Tenna/Ralsei/bypass the censors.

(Candidly, I am not sure the nicknames/also known as section really serves any purpose and just kinda feels cluttered/jokey in and of itself, and I wouldn't be sad if the entire section was removed, but I concede SOME level of whimsy should be present on a wiki for a Toby Fox game, of all things)

"Everyone who he calls princess" is just Susie and Ralsei.

It sounds to me that we should add "Princess" to Susie's infobox regardless of Ralsei.

"Everyone who he calls princess" is just Susie and Ralsei.

Kris is there too, when he is referencing to all 3 of them as "Princesses in distress."

The nickname section needs to be relatively concise, so it should only include meaningful, impactful names unique to them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Flowery collectively refer to the entire group as princesses in the scene where, if you game over while fighting an enemy near the beginning of the chapter, he carries Kris, Susie, and Ralsei to beds while they're unconscious?

* Ah... you've come to.

* ζ°—γŒγ€γ„γŸγ‹γ„οΌŸ

* I found you, unconscious,
washed up on the beach...

* 気を倱って 桜辺に
ζ΅γ‚Œη€γ„γ¦γ„γ‚‹γ‚γƒŸγŸγ‘γ‚’
θ¦‹γ€γ‘γŸγ‚“γ β€¦

* And carried you here... gently,
like princesses.

* だから ここへ運ばせて
γ‚‚γ‚‰γ£γŸγ‚ˆβ€¦
γŠε§«ζ§˜γ γ£γ“γ§γγ€‚

Meaning there's also an instance where he calls Kris a princess, too.

Personally, I would say that ones that are used for multiple characters by the same character shouldn't really qualify. If you do that, then nicknames, which are alternative names used to identify a character loses its meaning.

If Lancer suddenly called Ralsei, Kris and Suzie "Frank" randomly and interchangeably, then even though Frank is distinctly a name it wouldn't make sense to say it is a new nickname for all three of them. Same should go for Flowery and calling the party Princess.

All of the other nicknames Ralsei has are unique to him.

Isn't this an unused scene? This is comes from gml_Object_obj_room_garden_hospital_intro_Step_0, and I don't remember any hospital in the Garden.

Besides, saying he carried Kris "like a princess" isn't the same literally calling them "princess". This isn't what the Also known as section of the infobox is about.

I would avoid factoring in a collective nickname when sorting out individual nicknames.

Nope, it's not unused, it happens when you lose a battle in the Garden. Also, it's the same exact verbal tic, I really doubt the fact he's being comparative here makes that much of a difference, especially because it's the same reason why he's also calling Susie and Ralsei princesses.
