Well... they're some very real themes.
Scholars have been trying to find an explanation as to why magic and deities manifest. They've found many things out about the world in their pursuit to find the answer, but never the source of the magic and deities. Presumably, there is no explanation.
For centuries, it was unknown. People just assumed there was mountain all the way through. Eventually, when trade was established between the east and west continents, sailors passed by the area, and found that there was a cold, barren wasteland. Assuming there was nothing, maps were updated, and it remained unexplored. Eventually, when it was eventually explored, Nippika was found. It's a small civilisation, made up of people who fled from the old Renthosian Empire and dared to explore the wasteland. They've been known for centuries, and routes have been established, but it's still small.

Yeah... Basically, the eastern continent was one unified nation. Think the USSR but with western Europe instead of eastern Europe. When it collapsed, it split into Renthos, Calantor, Regantium, and Flonia.
