Do people have thoughts/opinions on what spr_nondescript_room_hands will be now that we know more about funny image_friends?

I had a giant block of text about my personal interpretations of what Hands is likely going to be, based on the entire 'the cats aren't smart' / friend specifically NOT being an evil mastermind + them appearing in the nondescript room exposition alongside hands, but I'm truncating it down a bit to just. Asking what other people think first, so I don't sound evil when I mention what i think the friends and the funny hands have parallels to in the narrative. With how Deltarune as a whole keeps making sure to have Dark World concepts echo stuff in the Light World, I think I'm right about something, but it's such a wild swing that I don't feel fully comfortable launching into it until I see what the temperature is on this. >_>

Just let it be known that I think it is quite cutes... awa.

:turbohug:

Um...do ey know about Wing?

Like... am I aware of Gaster?? Yes if that is what you're asking, no if you're referring to someone else.

The question I am specifically asking is Within The Framework of what we know now about funny friend kitties and their implied roles, what does that mean for funny hands. Because I have... a Guess, but I wanted to see what other people thought.

the funny hands are for petting friend

DUHHH :burghley:

Yeah it deserves head pats.

This actually fits with my personal impressions of what I think nondescript_room_hands is thematically due to all of the weird image_friend Catti motifs. Approved.

I mean FRIEND is Pink and Yellow and the hands are Green and Purple. Pink and Yellow and Green and Purple seem to be the Shadow Crystal Related Color schemes, so it works.

Yes!

My current Guess (which i admit is based on vague gut feelings lol) is hands and friend have a similar thing to Jockington and Catti (also considering how nondescript room just calls friend face/shape, "hands" might have a device_ or image_ format name we don't know yet, and I think I know what it is, if the catti and jockington parallels are on purpose...?)

With pink and yellow/gold being hopes/dreams or potentially love/value, this implies that the lime green and purple have specific symbolism... if lime green and the Gerson green are treated as the same, green might be freedom, but...? I don't necessarily think this is true... the green used for the strings in Mew Mew and Spamton Neo is distinct from the color on the neo wing and Jevil...

I could ramble more about what I think is going on but I need to type on a proper keyboard if I do...

Shades of Green seem connected to an aspect of shadow. Hands just work with that. And know I understand why green Gaster is a thing it’s not just because of Green Mage Toby The Pirate.

Their toys are the hand things im pretty sure

Its because green has a private pirate bucannering ship that they rented to gaster, the knight, aqua, friend, eram, normal npc, and Joe Biden, and they all owe them 5 Dollars.

no, they used the VESSEL as a Vessel

Oh, assuming they're like a joke about kikky's dental toys?

That would make the fact an image_friend bit Kris be funny. Thought their hand was touys... :soppingwet:

I'm still on the 'hands is Jockington Motif Clues' and the horrible bad joke conclusion that comes about from that. (which honestly I may try and elaborate on now that I've gotten more a temperature check on where people are at with hands.)

i feel like most people’s reaction to hands was “who IS this???”

(or maybe that was just mine)

personally I think hands is cool

Anyhow after all of the level-headed theorizing, we reach here. In the words of a certain Undertale character, welcome to my special hell:

In chapter 5, TasqueManager prays like so:

Catti dialogue from 4 that mentions immolation (as a joke, mind! but still. Bits(tm) can be foreshadowing, it's funny to do.)

There's a bunch of stuff that I could say about Catti's ties to funny image_friends but suffice to say that the image_friend face from Battat's minigame utilizes a face that has the pink/magenta eye be the same color as the pink on Catti:

So. The Cat Petterz Friend specifically has palette similarities to Catti.

Catti dialogue from chapter 4:

Jockington dialogue from 4:

Also Jockington dialogue from 4:

Some other Jockington stuff that's relevant:

So uh. Here's where this gets incoherent:

There's an unused/placeholder in the code that's relevant to what I think spr_nondescript_room_hands is in the general DEVICE framework:

image

https://tcrf.net/Deltarune#.231:_Enemy

Notice how the 'Enemy's sprite is a Rudinn, which is a snakelike enemy. Some of the other names it was changed to include Echidna, which while it Can be a homestuck reference, is the name of a mythological half-snake monster that lives in a cave.

The acts are also interesting:

spr_nondescript_room_'s alternate name might be DEVICE_ENEMY / IMAGE_ENEMY if it ever shows up in Deltarune, and my fervent belief is that if it does, it will not be aggressive to Kris under normal circumstances, as a direct foil to image_friends being continually described here and there like this:

"* Being a friend doesn't make you
them YOURS! Those teeth, they
BITE!"

So, if there was an Enemy... then... just because it's an enemy doesn't make you them YOURS, either, in the same way that Jockington neutralizes the hex from Catti. As a mercy.

All the same, Remember: if Catti and image_friend motifs are deliberate...

image

... So what happens if you hurt one of the image_friends?

What if you "have" to?

This isn't even going into my 'I think that Rudinns, Rudinn Rangers, and Floradinns being shaped like that is because the creator of those Specific Dark Fountains has /STRONG/ feelings/memories due to a prior encounter with Hands. Thus the funny snakey enemies that keep having a similar motif and shape, that are usually relatively easy to convince to do things, and are kinda silly."

... Isn't it funny how there's an item that serves as a mirror/counterpart to the DogDollar, the Glowshard?

Something that spares Rudinns instantly?

Isn't it super funny that there's a 'useless' defense item called the DogWidow that you can make in Chapter 5, the same chapter that has an image_friend potentially bite you?

Idk. This is very much me doing this:

:battat:

understandable!! I think the thing that really gets me about it is how there's a lot of interest in what friend is from the very start but then when something appeared that is shown in the same image as the first time a fullbody of funny friend kitty, people ignore it... very strange to me... :kriswiggle:

What if Catti is a red herring?
Chapter 6 is mainly story and real stuff, and chapter 7 is when all heck breaks loose, most likely.
How much room is there for Catti?
I mean, she was just 1/2 a vendor in UNDERTALE.
So...would she have some sort of significance in chapter 6?
But if chapter 6 is the Holiday Manor (my best bet)...
Would that leave chapter 7?
Would Toby wait that long to reveal her true significance?
What ground ties does she have, apart from friendly motifs?
(Of course, the theories about her are interesting and I think likely at least somewhat true. She does seem to be important, in some way...)

No Catti is Catty’s Younger Sister.

...Oh frick.
Uh.

And she’s literally an Occultist with Connections to Noelle, A Dislike of Susie, and Connections To Jockington who is literally in the prophecy.
