I know this is a shitpost, but you can actually deduce a surprising amount of information from the sprite alone:
- The phone is 2 pixels thick and has 1 pixel wide bezels, which makes it look like a brick.
- The screen doesn't have a particularly tall aspect ratio (looks like 3:2 to me).
- There's no notch, so it was likely released before iPhone X (2017) which popularized them.
- There's a visible status bar (like, that row of pixels that's darker than the rest) but no visible system navigation bar (like, Android's 3 buttons), so it must use hardware buttons for navigation.
All of this suggests that Kris has an old Android phone from the early 2010s. If you accept the unused manual as canon, DELTARUNE is set in 202X, which makes their phone at least a decade old:
...But I don't think it actually is. Kris and Toriel have a big ass 2 story house while most of the town lives in apartments, so they're definitely not poor and can afford a new phone. You could say Kris purposefully uses an old phone from their childhood because they're attached to it, but I don't think that's the case either because using a decade old phone to browse the Internet is torture (if it's even possible nowadays).
Instead, I think the world of DELTARUNE is just a decade behind the real life in terms of hardware, and I'm confident in saying this because of the phone Noelle uses:
One thing we know for certain about the Holidays is that they're bourgeoisie scumbags, so I know for a fact that Carol buys Noelle a new iPhone the moment it comes out, even though the game never says that. And yet, the phone she uses has the same short screen and wide bezels as Kris's phone. The only explanation I see is that she uses a brand new pink iPhone 5c:
iPhone 5c was released on September 20, 2013, which lines up with the game being set in autumn. This means that Kris's phone is actually quite new in-universe.
