As per my edit which has since been reverted, I believe it’s only fair to add “Genocide route” as one of the alternative names in the article.
Like I mentioned before, “Genocide” straight-up redirects to “Weird route/Chapter 2”. Initially in the early days before the name “Snowgrave” caught on, this was how it was known. Everyone talking about it was like “DELTARUNE has its own GENOCIDE ROUTE NOW??” (Yes I’m referring to a certain YouTuber who has recently gained controversy, but it certainly wasn’t just them). At the very least the Chapter 2 section of the route has been known by that name for a non-insignificant period of time.
The article in itself has a section about the route’s similarities to Undertale’s Genocide route. As different as they are, both of them are an alternate “evil” route hidden in the game. An Undertale fan who is only getting introduced to Deltarune would immediately think of it as Deltarune’s own version of Genocide, and call it that.
The name sees more use than “alt” or “Side B” by the community. It warrants a mention among them at least.
I’m not asking that the name of the article be changed or that the name should be more prominent anywhere else. As much as I’m sure we all hate it when people call it “Deltarune Genocide”, people do do that, so it should be on the wiki, in one of the very few sections where community opinion is taken into account.
But yeah aside from the first year of chapter 2 being released, I cannot remember the times the Weird Route was referred to as Genocide Route afterwards.
the deltarune wiki does not document the fandom. eram is not an alt name for shadow mantle holder, the mikes’ fan nicknames are not listed despite how ubiquitous they are, and genocide route as an alt name for weird route does not get included.
“snowgrave route” being listed as a prominent alt name for the weird route is one of the few exceptions, so i understand the confusion. since snowgrave’s a fan name it wouldn’t normally be listed. it is on the page anyway because, before the new chapters released, we had no official name for the weird route and almost everyone just called it snowgrave. including the wiki. “snowgrave route” was the name of the weird route page for four years. genocide route was used by the community, when the game first came out. so was pipis route. so were some others. these were names that people tossed around but did not ultimately stick anywhere near snowgrave. they just aren’t close to the same impact. “is comparable to genocide route” is fine to put on the weird route page, “is called the genocide route” just isn’t.
“alt” is used by the game files; if genocide was used by the game files it’d be listed on the page too. side b is used by the japanese community, which is why we don’t see it used. i’m unsure if that side of the community does still use it that often, but if it isnt incredibly popular we could cut it. is there anyone here knows anything abt the japanese community? id love your input.
sideb is also from the gamefiles. used in a lot of script and object names (eg scr_sideb_get_phase, obj_ch2_fountain_sideb, obj_ch2_scene_sideb_noelleroom)
from what ive seen, in the jp fandom the weird route is generally just called the 'A route' short for 'alternate route,' but dont quote me on that
I’m looking through the article’s edit history, and “Pipis Route” was because an editor created the Ch 2 Weird Route article on September 18, which was a day after the Chapter 1&2 demo released on September 17, 2021.
On September 19, there was some discussion about renaming the article.
Gil actually had moved and renamed the article to “Weird Route” on September 19 too, as he pointed out that it is listed as such in the game files. Based on Gil’s past summary replies, apparently there were people suggesting a lot of alternate names, primarily “Snowgrave,” and some edit warring occurred, and Jacky720 locked it.
A community vote occurred on the Fandom site roughly some days after, with “Snowgrave” being favored. Kocka had moved it to “Snowgrave Route” on October 9, 2021 per community voting.
There was some partial mentions of “Genocide Route” in the article’s history summaries, but like Cerulean mentioned, Snowgrave Route was favored, and all these alternate names happened on early release.
Unfortunately, it seems like some sites like “Archive of Our Own” has “Pipis Route” as part of its tag because of its early article name, and fans wanting to write stories based on Weird Route.
