On the Weird Route, if Noelle has the Thorn Ring her health will always drain down to 55.
55, in Roman Numerals; is LV.
LV in Undertale is LOVE, or Level of Violence.
I edited this on the Thorn Ring page and it got reverted for being speculative.
LV is even in Deltarune, so it's clearly important.
You gain better stats via violence, something that the Weird Route requires.
Sword Route, which hints at the Weird Route, also requires violence.
If the Sword Route (teaches you of Weird Route) and Weird Route (required to get Thorn Ring) are so centered on violence, then certainly your Level of Violence being abbreviated as LV and being 55 in Roman Numerals (which the Thorn Ring drains Noelle to) is significant?
I don't think it's that speculative to say that 55 is LV, and LV is your Level of Violence.
What does everyone else think about the inclusion of such?
I think this is a fun trivia to add, at the VERY least.
gosh it was hard to centralize this image
the screen was shaking
Las Vegas… 7 Chapters… 777…
THE NUMBERS! THEY MUST MEAN SOMETHING! LIKE SANS BLEEDING AND ASRIEL FLYING!
Asriel floats because Toby Thinked he would look to goofy if he didn't
Go to the Cutting Room Floor and check out
I added it to the thorn ring page
Let's hope it doesn't get taken down
I do think it is speculative. It’s a huge reach just to think Toby meant to express anything in Roman numerals, let alone a specific number he used for Noelle’s HP there. The most obvious explanation is that he picked that number because wanted to balance Berdly’s Weird Route battle.
Where did this theory even come from? We’ve been removing this trivia point from the page since September 2021.
Bro, why ELSE would Toby have made it 55? 60 is a much better number if he just wanted something low, but not too low. Or 50 if he wanted it harder. There's no way this is a coincidence.
55 is just a number. When balancing the battle, he probably found higher numbers make the battle too easy, and lower numbers make the battle to hard.
Toby hasn’t been hiding secrets as Roman numerals, ever. Why would he do it here? What even is the significance of “LV” in this case? We’ve never gotten a confirmation of what LV stands for in Deltarune, but it’s clearly not Level of Violence.
Remember, Toby Fox has a reason for almost everything in his games. (maybe)
So it's uncertain if Toby did this intentionally or not.
55 is just the result of a mathematical calculation. If it were meant to be intentional then it would have at least been programmed to be 55 specifically, but it’s not. It’s just programmed to stop at a certain percentage of max HP. This just happens to be 55 based on Noelle’s max HP in that specific battle.
Yo, OceanBagel themself is here? Sweet.
This should definitely be added to the thornring’s page somewhere, it’s notable to put how the mechanic works and it could dissuade people from adding the LV thing by explaining what’s really going on
it is! in the second paragraph!
This ring halves the TP cost of Noelle's IceShock and SnowGrave spells, and is required to cast the latter due to its otherwise unattainable 200% TP cost. During combat, it gradually reduces Noelle's HP down to one third (rounded down) of her maximum HP, but cannot decrease it any lower. In its only usable fight (against Berdly), this is 55 HP. When equipped to Noelle, her title changes to "Ice Trancer" with the description "Receives pain to become stronger."
its been noted on the page since the 23rd of september 2021...
Toby Fox should have a reason for this, right???????
Edit: RIP THREAD
its a third, rounded down. a third is a nice fraction. thats the reason, probably
