The Legend motif (B) is pretty clearly referenced in Flower Castle in the first section between 0:06 and 0:35, specifically the Castle Town rendition (which is thematically very fitting if you've paid attention to the dialogue).
It's definitely not a perfect quote, but the base ideas are very similar and there's a bunch of shared notes and intervals that line up well, even without transposing anything :
If someone could confirm that I'm not spewing BS and that this has enough credence to be added that would be great lol.
I've also seen some people say that the 1:03-1:32 section has it too, but I personally can't hear it at all so idk if it's actually there or not.
@Vexodus ! I summon thee!
We need Vexodus for this one
if it's not a direct quote it's not going on the leitmotifs page
No.
Here's both the melodies side by side in FL.
Purple is Flower Castle
Yellow is the Legend
and red is where they play the same note.
As you can see:
They share two notes.
Susie's motif also starts like this.
as does Lancer.
Yeah I'm sorry it ain't here
It absolutely is here. I understand not wanting to include it on the wiki since it's far from a perfect quote, but exclusively basing motif recognition on one-to-one note correlation is a reductive approach to say the least, especially since Toby rarely keeps the rhythm consistent across different variations. The general melodic idea of the first half is near identical.
dude, i'm sorry, but no.
it barely even makes sense for it to be here in the first place, given that no other tracks in ch5 have the legend
I can see what you mean, but i just don't think it's intentional at all
How does it not make sense for Flower Castle to have a variation of the Castle Town theme a couple of moments before Flowery draws an explicit parallel between the two locations ? Well, whatever I guess. Maybe you're right and I'm going crazy, but it's just too clear for me to ignore.
meh, i could be wrong too.
just seems somewhat a stretch.
that is a good point ya make tho.
i also heard my castle town, before i started checking here. does this make it clearer? flower castle on top, my castle town on the bottom, it's just kind of squished into a simpler melody
(sorry about how sloppy this is, i'm filling in colors in paint. don't pay attention to the note labels either i just slid them around for space)
as for the rest of it, this is as similar as i could make them, with measures 5-8 of this section of flower castle on top (OP shows 1-4, but measures 3+4 and 7+8 are different, and only 8 has this descent) and my castle town on the bottom:
so i wouldn't consider this part evidence. too much variation and they don't really sound the same to me either. but the intro does sound like it might be meant to invoke the castle town motif. i have no opinion on whether the wiki lists it as such or not, i just wanted to offer a better comparison and an explanation for why they sound similar. to me there's a better argument for don't forget.
