Susie and Lancer have the best Bossfight in the Game. Here's Why

If you were to ask someone who their favorite boss in the game is, they’d probably say Spamton, Jevil, Queen, maybe King. Me however? It’s Susie and Lancer. Here’s why

Banger Music
While not my favorite theme in the game (Chaos King my beloved), vs. Lancer is without argument, a banger. Toby is no stranger to composing good music, and that’s just an example. The happy go lucky energy it gives off is so fitting for Lancer, and it matches the aura surrounding the battle perfectly. It’s not a high stakes battle. It’s silly banter. I could complain about how this didn’t play during Lancer’s solo fight, but alas, that is not what this post is about.

Fun ACTing text
This isn’t the first time Toby has added funny dialogue or flavour text for ACTs, but I particularly LOVE the ACT text for Susie and Lancer’s fight the most. Ralsei’s dialogue for trying to convince Susie and Lancer to stop fighting is just so sweet and so in character for him. Him offering to braid their hair? So cute! Him explaining that someone might get hurt despite it being the entire point of fighting? Hilarious! It’s not just that dialogue too. The flavour text is funny too. Telling Susie you’ll give her a basket of worms is honestly pretty funny. The fact Susie almost considers it is even funnier. But there’s this one dialogue line that takes the cake for me. I’ll type it here for yall.

You’rereallyaswellpersonyouknowthat?!

That, is peak Toy Fox humor.

Funny interactions
It genuinely feels like Toby put more effort into this fight then all the others. Lancer blocking Ralsei’s pacify with his Bike is like nothing we’ve seen in the game so far. It’s the equivalent of Susie covering Lancer’s ears so he can’t hear your kindness, but more subtle, and so much cooler. I also find it interesting that Lancer seemingly only uses certain attacks if Susie is knocked out. Also, many might not know this, but if Susie is knocked out, Lancer’s defense actually drops! Also, I really love how Susie ends the fight in both possible outcomes of the fight because Lancer didn’t want to keep going. Something that I just found out recently, that whenever Susie hits you, Lancer will actually cheer. I actually love that so much.

And that’s why Susie and Lancer take the seat of my favorite boss fight!

I'd like to agree that both the Queen's and Susie+Lancer Boss-fight were both cool and unique. Additionally, I'm not saying there is the "best" Boss-fight due to my opinion that, each fight in Deltarune is equally different and fun. For example both the C and K round Boss-fight, although easy, it provided the mechanic where Susie throws someone at the boss chaotically and, (don't forget) the banger music. Or even Sweet Cap'n Cakes, where you basically just dance lol. Or or even the Swatchings fight, Tenna fight, Jackenstein and ect... All I'm trying to say is my favorite fight is ngl both the Jevil fight and Watercooler fight.

For everyone who is not cultured. I give you. The Giga Queen fight. I had SO MUCH fun playing that fight for the first time. Or Gerson, but he doesn't count cuz this was made before chap 3 & 4 came out.

NOT HAMMER OF JUSTICE? OR EVEN TENNA???!!!

Check the date of this post.

I mean... objectively, this is a highly incorrect take. Even when this was written, we had things like Snowgrave NEO and Jevil. But, at the same time, these points don't really look at how a typical battle becomes great. These are really great points, but are mainly in the favour of Lancer and Sus(s)ie. Not to say they are entirely invalid, they're great points to make, but, in the typical RPG sense, only one of these points (music) really lines up with what makes a good battle (attacks, challenge, story/character development (which does appear in this fight, but you don't mention it???)). The fight feels much more joke-centric, which Toby is very good at, and he is very good at making good joke-centric fights. It doesn't really line up with typical RPG fights. It's good, though, because it is out of the ordinary, and I do also like it very much, especially with how detailed (or, undetailed, I suppose, since last I checked, a lot of specific text looks very rushed). But, if we look at your points, we can raise a much better candidate for this title: Giga Queen. The same goofiness, a banger song, and most of the other RPG elements, all in a game of FUCKING. PUNCH-OUT. Incredible fight. Both are good, but Giga Queen combines your points of why Lancer and Susie are good, and most of the typical RPG battle elements.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Hey, it’s called an opinion.

Opinions can’t be incorrect.

Okay but I’m not arguing something that is hurting someone.

I’m just saying my favorite fight in the game.

I'm not saying it's wronge per se, just that by normal RPG fight standards, it's a very middling fight. It's still good, but if you raise me Susie and Lancer, I'll raise you Giga Queen.

If you were to, say, raise King as a point, I would be much more harsh, because at that point, we would be judging based on normal RPG fight standards. However, more gag-centric fights like Susie and Lancer have much different points as to why they're good.
