What if we got a noir-style Dark World based off of 1930s-1940s USA, more specifically large cities like New York? You know, the Great Depression, organized crime, mobsters, the Hollywood's Golden Age, jazz and all that stuff.
Just imagine a giant crowded city with bars, department stores, cinemas and all that. A dance club rhythm game mechanic would be a cool addition as well. Heck an action chase sequence in one of these would go absolutely hard:
The antagonists could be either some kind of mob organisation or (which is more interesting) a Bonnie and Clyde-inspired duo of bandits who try to rob everything that's being preotected at least a little bit.
I think it would be a fire idea of such a dark world overall. The soundtrack would be very jazzy and swingy too, we haven't really seen jazz from Toby except Catswing, so this would be a nice fresh side of his music. You could even go all in and make (almost) everything black-and-white to truly feel the "vibe". Mouse: pi for hire (a fairly recently released game) did something like that. I think Toby could borrow something from that and other 1940s inspired media. Ch. 5 shows that he's ready to borrow ideas from real life locations or eras of time. I'm just not sure what the darkners themselves would be, as well as what the light world location would be. Unless an adult(?) lounge bar gets built in hometown this wouldn't happen. But who knows? We got Japan in a freaking flower shop so a 1940's US dark world doesn't sound that far-fetched.
So, what do you think? For a MarkKrutak this is pretty creative imho. I might add more ideas to this if some come to me later.
