Renaming "Man" page to "Forgotten Man"

"man" was the term people used for him when his only descriptor was "a man."
as of chapter 3, we now have a title for him: "the forgotten man."
i think we should change his page title to forgotten man to match this new information.

I agree with this. Man should be a disambiguation, because it can refer to many people while “Forgotten man” is a more specific term.

Forgotten Man sounds OK since it gives more context and he describes himself as that!

I kinda think “man” should stay as a redirect. Anything “man” related should probably be listed on top as a “for,” mostly because I had recently updated “dog” to redirect to Annoying Dog. That dog gets referred to as a “dog” a lot in-game…

I think moving the page to “Forgotten Man” while maintaining “Man” as a redirect is the best move. “Man” as a disambiguation wouldn’t be of much use, at least for now, since there is only one character that goes by the sole name of “Man”, and I don’t think the NPCs with “Man” in their names are really what people are looking for when they search “man”.

I tried this but it wouldn’t let me, even though we seem to have a general consensus that it would be best to do this

I did see that! I think it was set like that because the article move happened too often without a community vote for it.

I’m kinda just waiting to see what F-sharp and Kocka think about this. F-sharp mentioned that back on the fandom site, there used to be community votes done with a proper reply to the topic.

There are two concerns that I have about this.

  • Renaming this page would break consistency with pages such as Knight. we do not name the page “Roaring Knight” even though multiple people and even the game itself refers to the Knight as such. If we were to go through with this, we may have to consider renaming the Knight page as well.
  • The Man only refers to himself as the Forgotten Man exactly once. All other references to the Man refer to him as simply “man” and nothing more. I hesitate to refer to him as “Forgotten Man” when that title may or may not change in future Chapters.

All in all, I’m pretty neutral on this change, aside from the concerns I listed.

Change "Knight" to "Roaring Knight", as Kris is also usually dressed as a Knight and is knighted in that one victory over Roaring Knight cutscene

i dont think anyone will ever be searching for "knight" when looking for kris. it's called knight in battle we can just leave the name as knight. meanwhile until man gets a battle where he's called man, i think he can be called forgotten man. i don't think these two have to be equivalent.

even if he's only called forgotten man once i think it should count as a name, while man is never a name, just a descriptor

No, no, he's got a point

If we factor the Knight article as well for a naming change, I don’t agree with the change, for two reasons:

  • Toby is still referring to the character as “the Knight” only in the recent-most interview page.
  • SuperFeatherYoshi brought up that the Knight is referred to as “ナイト” in Chapter 3, instead of “騎士” for the past Chapters… As what we have seen from the recent Chapter 5 teases, Toby follows closely on helping with translations. Specific subtle changes like these have been documented in the Undertale Sans article, where Sans is described as “兄ちゃん” and verifies him as the older brother of the two.

i think we should change the man page to forgotten man but i dont think we should change knight to roaring knight.

"roaring knight" and "knight" are both used as names/titles for the knight, but only "forgotten man" is ever used as a name/title. theyre similar but not equivalent. keeping the page name as "knight" is fine imo
