Papyrus Knight can be debunked with one character — Gerson.
Ralsei tells us in Chapter 4 that the reason that Susie wasn't able to bring Gerson back when she created the Second Sanctuary is because,
"Darkners patterned after the memory of a loved one...
"Tend to only appear in very specific darknesses."
This means that in order to create a Darkner with the remains of someone as the object, the person who made the Dark World must have a deep connection with the person they are trying to recreate.
How would Papyrus have a connection with Gerson?
Sans tells us in Chapter 1 that he and his "little brother" only recently moved to Hometown, implying that Gerson had been long dead by the time they moved. Meaning, Papyrus couldn't have met Gerson and developed any kind of relationship with him.
Besides, what motivation would Papyrus have? Do you guys just hate him and want him to be the villain?
Now, there's a possibility that Toby is keeping information about Papyrus vague on purpose... but it just really doesn't make sense for him to be the Knight.

Regardless of Knight identity I think it was either Carol or Alvin who made the fountain.
I have a few ideas, but my favorite one is that Papyrus, lacking both of his ambitions in Undertale, has no idea what to do with his life, and is using the Knight as a way to find purpose.

Doesn't Alvin say that Gerson recently died?
Might be misremembering, been a while since I played Deltarune.
Unfortunately no.
This doesn’t necessarily hurt me that much, but it wasn’t recent.
A few years could probably count as recent, right?
It could, but if Papyrus and Sans moved in a few years ago, I don’t think he’d say he hardly knows anyone.
Still could be Carol or Alvin who made the fountain for the Knight.

I personally think it's Asriel knight
And also works for everything. People believe Dess knight, but pretty much all evidence to support Dess knight could be used to support Asriel knight. Dess is stuck in the code.

Apparently Asriel Knight is Mother 3 reference

DessKnighters just hate AsrielKnight because they have zero counter evidence.

I also do think Alvin could have made the ch4 fountain, and I'm relatively non biased since i'm a Dess' knighter but I honestly don't bother digging too deeper or trying to fight about it, I think the other options (Carol, Papyrus, Amalgam, Ect.) are decent but I've taken my own stance
He’s literally unavoidably confirmed to be at college. He and Kris were talking online until the internet broke, and Toriel knows he’s still at college, so it’s physically impossible for him to be the knight unless 1. He took weird shadow drugs that turned him into a shadow monster (he has no excuse to look like that, Dess likely disappeared in the shelter) 2. Said drugs gave him antlers for no reason (antlers stay constant even in the bird form so they’re obviously important) 3. He somehow got to Hometown in record time (If his college was nearby he’d visit a lot more often) 4. Asriel becomes a completely silent aura farmer (Asriel and Flowey’s signature trait is not being able to shut up)
This also implies that 5. Asriel decided to plan to destroy the world, despite every single person in hometown exclusively talking about how he was the coolest, most loved person on earth (it’s totally possible they’re leaving out all the bad stuff, but the statement still stands)
Also 6. Asriel is like barely mentioned in the whole game, Dess gets more mentions then him in the chapter based off of his own house.
It feels weird to choose a character who is pretty much always mentioned offhandedly as a way to convey how lonely Kris is over a character who has an absurd amount of secrets solidifying her as Extremely Obviously Important. The 1225 gacharoom could be unimportant. deltarune.com/dess could a red herring. Dess’ guitar being an extremely important part of Chapter 4’s Light World segment could be nothing. The ANTLERS on the Knight’s head and what looks like a BASEBALL BAT could be nothing.
This post looks super angry but i swear im not actually mad.

I don't favor Dess knight all that much, I just think it's a good option. I could potentially be swayed by an argument I see as credible. I've just taken my stance so I have something to say and something to add.
