You have to survive the bullet hell bits until it summons minions, then deal with the minions. If you heard a power down noise while fighting the minions, that's a good sign, because that means you can go behind the Symbiont to attack its glowing weak point, and just keep doing that until it dies, and then keep doing the fight until you have as many command block books as you need
Yeah, did a full test-run of the Storm in Creative just to see how the whole thing works (though the Symbiont fight and Command Block fight were in survival)
They despawn if they're very far away from all players and storms for long enough

My plan in general is to kill 1 Symbiont, slap dat book on my sword, then kill it for 5 more books (1 for each tool and 1 for the Super TNT)

Good plan, but I mean, I don't think every tool is necessary unless you're going really all-in on combat flexibility (yes even the hoe is reliable (also the iron command block hoe looks sick as heck))

All of my CWSM knowledge is from experience, whether that be experimenting in Creative or just coincidentally encountering in Survival, and in all that I never thought to put a Symbiont next to water

Well if you really can't afford a gapple stew you could make sure you have cheats enabled and use /witherstormmod sickness cure @s
Also I thought about it and even if it did have the frost walker effect it still wouldn't be a good idea, I tried fighting it on a frozen ocean during one run but the "arena" kept exploding, dropping me into the water
No, I can (plus even if I couldn't I wanna do this 100% legit, if keepInventory still counts as legit) I was just curious
I personally think keep inventory counts as legit mainly because I'd really hate to suddenly lose all my highly enchanted endgame stuff because I got knocked into lava one time or smth like that
