Oh I like the movie just fine. But it's so wildly different from the books except for the characters names and locations that it kind of makes me mad

Okay
I don't know how to summarize this lol but basically, in this story everyone has dragons, and hiccup and a handful of other kids his age are old enough to start training their own dragons. so they sneak into the dragon's nest and steal their dragons. (FYI this is what they're supposed to be doing. I kind of make it sound like this is sneaky but it's not) Obviously it doesn't go well, and in all the chaos, Hiccup ends up with a small, disagreeable, green, and actually toothless dragon named Toothless.
The rest of the book is just him trying to train Toothless and failing (sort of). Hiccup isn't very good at Viking stuff, and all the other vikings just train their dragons by yelling at them a bunch. Hiccup isn't like that- he knows the dragons' language, so he tries nice guy methods to train Toothless with mixed success.
Then the day comes when they'll be tested, and disaster strikes. And if you want to know what happens you should read the book yo'self

Hiccup's name comes from the line of Hiccup, who were the ruling family of the kingdom of the Wilderwest, which ruled the entire archepeligo
basically [spoiler]Hiccup I was the great, Hiccup II got , which led to the events of the main story and the fall of the Wilderwest, and Hiccup III is the Hiccup we know

there's a farmer called Alvin
he throws tantrum when he realises he lost pretty gem

oh and fishlegs is skinny, IDK if the twins existed even and Snotlout was semi-heroic
Snotlout is a side antagonist for most of the story
