Hello everyone. It is time once again to launch another New Pages project. This is similar to the projects we launched pre-Deltarune release and post-Deltarune release, and we have seen many new articles created as part of these efforts. This post follows the restructuring of the Characters categories and navboxes on both wikis, as outlined in a prior discussion. This time, our goal is to phase out collective NPC pages in favor of individual articles for each and every NPC in Undertale and Deltarune.
This project will run alongside the Manual of Style re-standardization project. If you haven't participated yet, now is the perfect time to help out there as well!
Motivation
NPC pages were originally designed as a way to group NPCs we deem not noteworthy enough for their own article into a single page. For many years, this was the status quo regarding how we organize information regarding NPCs.
However, since we forked away from Fandom last year, we have run into numerous issues as a result of this rationale from before we forked. For the NPCs we have split off, we have found that there was too much noteworthy information to keep crammed into a collective NPC page, which has impeded searchability and readability.
Our continuous efforts to split off NPCs means that we have had to completely remove their respective NPC page entries. The problem with doing this is that the NPC pages will have missing entries where information used to be, and therefore, these pages would no longer be the complete list of minor NPCs that we had originally designed them to be.
So, let's completely scrap all of them and transition into full articles for all NPCs.
How you can help
The process is simple:
- Choose an NPC from any of the NPC pages listed on this post.
- Note the section name of the character you chose. Head to Special:NewPage (Undertale Wiki) or Special:NewPage (Deltarune Wiki) and enter the name of the target page. This will take you to the edit window.
- Transfer the info from the NPC page to the full article. Note that there may already be content on the page in the form of a redirect link, so you will need to overwrite the redirect call for the page to function as intended.
- Note: You will have to reformat the page to fit our page organization standards. This means supplying an infobox and rewriting aspects of the character's appearance, personality, and role in the main story to better fit the new article. Refer to page organization (Undertale Wiki) and page organization (Deltarune Wiki) for details. Also refer to example pages, such as small bird and Monster Kid.
- Update any redirects that linked to the entry on the collective NPC page. You can check this by clicking on "What links here" in the sidebar while on the collective NPC page and filtering out non-redirect links by checking the "Hide links" option.
- Reply to this post with pages you have contributed under this project.
