the Running Gags page is very quickly becoming a list of every single joke in deltarune. since in my opinion the wiki does not need a list of every single joke in deltarune, i suggest we figure out criteria for what qualifies as worth being on this article and what doesn't.

i think spanning multiple chapters is a good starting point- everything in the YOUR TAKING TOO LONG section could just fit on jackenstein's page. but more ideas would be helpful

It's called “Running” Gags, so I suggest the first criteria is that it has spanned for at least 2 chapters (if the gag appears in the next chapter, or a chapter after it, although the latter is less likely)

Roughly copy-pasting from discord: This was a major concern I had when I saw the "Running Gags" article go live.

I just don't know what counts as a "gag" that isn't purely subjective. I don't think "smells" for example are a "gag", it's certainly reoccurring but it isn't smth that's always played for laughs to me.

What exactly do we point to when we decide it is/isn't "gag"-like enough?

What if we rename it to "Jokes in Deltarune", then have a section for running gags (AKA multi-chapter gags), one-off jokes, and recurring gags within a single chapter?

Some examples for each would be like;

The explosion sound and visual for multi-chapter running gags,

The explosions of the arcade machine in Cyber Field for one-off jokes,

And Queen hiding from Berdly in Chapter 2 for recurring single-chapter gags.

Feel free to read this like I'm listing off the heroes of the prophecy (Ralsei Edition).

My previous point stands. What does/doesn't constitute as a "joke"? It's ill-defined and way too broad to be worth documenting.

Hear me out: community vote for which category each goes into.

It's a lot of work but it'd be worth it.

i'm going to make a list of what i think of everything on the page so far.

  1. Annoying Dog - cut, already has a page
  2. Explosion - keep
  3. Smells Like - cut, we already have flavor text on each page, if someone wants to see all of it they type "smells like" into search.
  4. Rouxls's blocks - cut, this could be on rouxls's page
  5. Ralsei says okay - cut, it's infrequent and if we really need it we can just put a sentence in ralsei's personality
  6. Splat noise - unsure, it's not super frequent and usually relates to lancer, but doesn't always relate to lancer and is somewhat frequent
  7. Thrash Machine, Starwalker, Moss - cut, already has a page
  8. Bed Inspector - cut, pretty minor gag and already has a page
  9. Dead Pixel - keep, wasn't this on searchdigest? and bound to be in future chapters
  10. Boob - cut, it's 4 unconnected mentions of the word "boob"
  11. Nubert - cut, already has a page and is barely even recurring
  12. Ralsei Transforms - cut, could just put this on ralsei's page
  13. Banana - cut, barely recurring outside of ch2
  14. Watercoolers - cut, already has a page

i understand this is most of the page. which, yeah, i do think most of the page has to go, but if anyone has any views please voice them

Hmm... I remember banana appearing on SearchDigest some time ago. Maybe there's some merit to keeping it?

In the cases where it already has a page… have the section exist, but it does the “Main Article: [[link to the page in question]]” thing. All the running gags should be acknowledged in the running gag page, but you do have a point that we also don’t need a bunch of redundancy, so this should be fair. Don’t just cut it entirely, leave behind “Main Article:[[link]]”

Update:That’s… already what happened before the advice was even given. Cerulean, those are already fine. This is exactly what should happen; a link to the page in question and why it’s a running gag. If we removed those sections entirely, it’d look like we’re saying those events are not running gags, which would be inaccurate. Keep the sections linking to the main articles.

hi first off so sorry this took me forever to get around to

i’m alright with leaving the ones that have their own page with a {{main}} if people think that’s fine. though, i still do think we should leave character-specific ones on the character pages, like ralsei splat and ralsei says ok

i didnt know about the searchdigest thing. i suppose we are obligated by the power of searches to keep banana [said really dramatically with one hand draped over my forehead]
