But does he stay missing for all of the attack or is the disappearing just the effect of the teleportation?

i think that's mostly just a heart-themed pun to forecast the hearts attack, though. it's a riff on the phrase 'my heart goes out to you'.
in the same vein as how "HEE HEE, HAVING FUN!? JOIN THE CLUB!" before the club attack is playing on the phrase 'join the club'
the clubs attack gets a club-themed pun, and the hearts attack gets a heart-themed pun...i'm not sure you're meant to read into it much further than that
