I AM NOT LOOKING TO DISCUSS THESE CHARACTERS BEING TRANSGENDER. I AM LOOKING TO DISCUSS THE JOY OF THE REPRESENTATION WE GET OF TRANSGENDER CHARACTERS IN UNDERTALE AND DELTARUNE.
Dress lion: (i believe thats their name) at the end of mettatons performance, she compliments mettatons dress and wishes she could wear one too. at the end of undertale, this lion, with a mane, is seen wearing the iconic blue dress (given to her by mettaton) commonly used to show trans characters!! shes also shown smiling, and if mettaton is killed she states she feels conflicted about something, and not wearing the dress along with a frown.
Mettaton: oh boy do i love talking about my beautiful transgender king mettaton. seen via mettatons diary in his house, its shown him writing about napstablook and they are the only ones not with a vessel yet. napstablook asks mettaton if he is going to get a vessel, and mettaton seemingly said no and expresses sadness in the journal, saying how he'd never find a vessel that would fit what he's looking for anyway. in the last entry, this is written;
Book 6]
- Dear Diary: She surpised me with something today.
- Sketches of a body that she wants to create for me...
- A form beyond my wildest fantasies.
- In a form like that, I could finally feel like... "myself."
- After all, there's no way I can be a star the way I am now.
- Sorry, Blooky. My dreams can't wait for anyone...
the quote "a form like that i could finally feel like myself" which is very similar to the transgender experience of body disphoria, along with all ghosts using they/them pronouns until finding a vessel.
frisk & chara; both of these characters are exclusively referred to with they/them pronouns, and are nonbinary.
napstablook; napstablook is a ghost that is not looking for a vessel, and use they/them pronouns, and are nonbinary.
(note; yes, you can use they/them pronouns without being nonbinary, same with being nonbinary and using pronouns other then they/them! this is not the case for these characters, but its important to note. thats why i'm saying "use they/them pronouns and are nonbinary".)
mad mew mew; mad mew mew, a fight only available in the nintendo version, is the undertale equivalent to pink and is transfem. she used to be mad dummy, and was referred to with they/them pronouns, before possessing an action figure, becoming mad mew mew and using she/her, making her transfem.
cowboy hat mike; cowboy hat mike uses he/they pronouns, and is nonbinary.
seam; seam uses they/them pronouns, and are nonbinary.
lanino and elnina; both of these characters use he/they and she/they pronouns respectively.
seth; seth says explicitly in deltarune chapter 5 that they are not a boy or girl, and use they/them pronouns throughout the whole game. they are nonbinary.
green; in the same cutscene where seth is confirmed to be nonbinary, yellow says quote "hey! i aint a boy, i'm a cowboy! an' greens a CHEF." also making them explicitly nonbinary. they use they/them pronouns throughout the whole game, and are nonbinary.
pink; the whole story of pink is how her mind and body are different, which is a very good metaphor for body dismorphia. pink's body also goes by she/it, while pink herself goes by she/her. both pink and her body are transfem!
kris; kris is refered to as "the cage" in the prophecy, and has a running story on their bodily automamy being taken away, and how their soul doesnt fit/doesnt belong to their body. kris is referred to with they/them pronouns throughout the entire game, and is nonbinary.
AND ALSO MANY MANY MANY of the basic enemies in deltarune and undertale use they/them and or it/its pronouns.
HONOURABLE MENTIONS; (aka, common headcanons id like to bring up. these are NOT CANON, and or NOT CONFIRMED yet.)
there is a theory of spamton being transmasc.
with yellows line of "i aint a boy! i'm a cowboy!" and also refering to himself with they/them pronouns once, i like to think he is nonbinary, and uses they/he. if that.. isint obvious already.
berdly is often headcanoned as both transfem and transmasc.
noelle is also often headcanoned as both transfem and transmasc, and their darkworld outfit can make a very good trans flag. (funfact! you can be transmasc and a lesbian at the same time, look it up. theres a whole community!)
there is a large theory on ralsei being transfem. she is also often headcanoned as genderfluid and nonbinary.
