Just imagine the community's reaction

When Gaster is finally revealed in DR and hus sprite is not the mysteryman one but instead the [redacted] one
Like there's a ton of art depicting him as the mysteryman and the community has just agreed that he looks like that
Honestly redacted always made more sense to me
Like:

  1. Redacted speaks in wingdings like the 17th entry
  2. Mysteryman was removed from the undertale soundtrack vinyl's cover while redacted remained

The only mildly contradicting thing is that mysteryman can actually appear in-game
But still I think he'll look like redacted just to troll us all
But what do you think?

i dont think that gaster, the character who is described as being shattered across time and space, is going to have a singular design thats correct, especially seeing as there are two characters who are almost definitely gaster, the voice and the forgotten man, and to give them the same design seems unintuitive.

I agree about the voice but the forgotten man is 99% not gaster.

  1. He doesn't speak like gaster (lowercase letters, longer sentences)
  2. He most likely has a definite physical form (one of the cars in chapter 1 is described as "having a man inside that waves at you" even including "well" and stuff) while Gaster is shattered across time and space, as you said.

Plus the whole concept of the redacted sprite is that it's, well, redacted. If it is actually Gaster then it can be "redacted" due to Gather committing something bad.

I think gaster is the mystery man just because in the games files a unused enemy stats with gaster's name have a bunch of 6, and mystery mans fun event is 66, but aside from that there's no real proof (That at least I can think of). I personally think it'll still be mystery man, but I hope Gaster ends up being someone else or a design we haven't seen yet, just so it can diminish nearly a decades worth of fan art an AU's.

Redacted is an ugly scribble of a sprite that isn’t in the game, while mystery man is a finished character sprite, which appears in a grayscale room when you have a fun value of 66, then disappears with a sound effect that I believe it shares with a Gaster follower

Additionally, the knight has holes in its hands

Mystery man is some form of Gaster

Redacted is at most a much less important form of him, it’s not even referenced at all

Additionally, mystery man being removed is actually evidence for him being significant

The entire point of the vinyl cover was to show every character/entity in the game

Why would mystery man be removed, if not to increase/preserve the sense of mystery around him? What would the alternative reason be?

Does Toby just hate him or something?
