This song has the Gaster Motif in it right? I don't see it mentioned on the page.
It's not an exact match. Whether is intentional or not is unknown. Lots of four-note sequences would sound kind of like Gaster's Theme on accident.
Whilst it is easy to mistakenly "find" gasters theme in alot of songs due to the simplicity of the melody, I don't think thats the case here for several reasons.
- the simplisity of flashback makes it unlikely that Gasters motif would appear through random chance.
- It would make alot of sense as a place where gasters theme would be found, given the context of the scene it is in. (Ralsei talks about things getting "darker than dark")
- The overall structure of the two songs is similar, both have a main melody of an arpeggiated chord that repeats before moving down in key (although flashback only repeats the pattern twice before the key change and has an extra flourish at the end.) Their both played on similar sounding instuments.
- Whilst I don't have the musical knowlege to confirm that flashback has the exact 1 up 7 up 7 down 1 down pattern that defines Gaster's theme, I am certain that the pattern is root note -> slightly higher note -> significantly higher note -> back down to 2nd note -> return to root note. The similarities are especialy previlent if you listen to the first two bars of flashback at about 1.5x speed.
Don't get me wrong, I do think that song is pretty Gastery. I'm just not confident enough to put it on the wiki. It goes up four semitones instead of seven.
Andrew Cunningham made a video analyzing potential appearances of Gaster's Theme in Chapters 1+2. You should watch it if you haven't already: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H89ZT0jjiO8
I.... Completely forgot that flashback was even in the Andrew Cunningham video, whoops. Yeah the fact that the intervals are different does make the flashback motif desinct from the Gaster one. Maybe we'll get a more direct quote in the full song who knows.
Flashback is, uh. A completely different 4 ntie melody, as far as I can tell
