Yup, it's definitely intentional. 3 of the 4 minibosses introduce a novel gameplay mechanic:
- K. Round - battles that you can't win with violence
- Sweet Cap'n Cakes - S-Action and R-Action
- Jackenstein - darkness constricted TP
Lanino and Elnina don't introduce any mechanic, but they need to get divorced for the plot to progress. In case you're wondering, it's not possible to kill them (without cheats) even if you keep trying because after a certain number of turns, one of them asks whose attack you liked without your input. I tried that myself just to see what happens.
