So if you guys remember, I used to think that Mike was FRIEND before Chapters dropped. However, new dialogue with Pink for if you get hurt by FRIEND in Chapter 5 seems to contradict this.
“The cats are not too smart”. It doesn’t say they’re completely stupid, but considering all the things Mike does for Tenna, I think he’d need some level of decent intelligence. So yeah, this seems to rule it out. At minimum, makes it less likely.
However, Pink also tells us this a few lines before.
Who do we know that can summon a bunch of FRIENDs to their aid?
Thats right, Eram.
Heck, the behavior even matches. Pink says the cats will chase targets until they get bored. During Eram’s boss fight, if you don’t kill the FRIENDs they summon, they’ll leave after some time.
With this, I think we can say that Eram is the hunter.
So… why does this mean they’re Mike?
Well, where else can we find a horde of FRIENDs?
That’s right. Battat’s minigame in Mike’s room.
Also, if you take a break with Pink at the cafe and say “Gotta win!” when Susie breaks the truth about Kris’s flirting, she’ll pull out this.
That, my friends, is a MichaelBomb.
An item that shows up exclusively in Mike’s room to reset your score. Pink just happens to have this, and also knew someone who was obsessed with FRIEND?
Pair this with all the FRIEND imagery we see in Mike’s Room. If it’s not FRIEND, then the logical next step is to say it’s the guy who is obsessed with them.
And as for the Spamton connection? Both Spamton NEO and Mike have the Battle Against a True Hero leitmotif in their songs. Additionally, the Sword Route - the instructions to the Weird Route - is what Eram is the final boss of. In Chapter 2, Spamton is the final boss of the Weird Route himself. Both encourage you down a path, and become your adversary at the end of them.
So yeah, Eram’s the hunter and the hunter is Mike.
