Don't Forget in Lost Girl

Lost Girl contains Don't Forget at 0:19-0:22.

Here's the quote in Lost Girl on the left and Don't Forget as it appears in The Dark Truth at 0:50-0:53.

The Intervals are exactly the same.

This also means that almost every quote of Lost Girl also contains Don't Forget.

This is very interesting because:

-I only remember hearing this melody in Dark Truth/Place and Lost Girl, Distance Between Two, and Ferris Wheel, so it doesn't appear in other songs with the Don't Forget motif (that I know of)

-It has the same notes as the last 5 notes of the Don't Forget motif, but instead of the 1st 2 ascending, and then the second-to-last 2 descending, it's reversed: the 1st 2 descend while the second-to-last 2 ascend (as seen in your 2nd picture)

Here's the same section of Don't Forget in Beginning at 0:24

Oh damn yeah it is! But I think it's a unique melody for Beginning and yeah Dark Truth/Place

made a video to compile the ones i found

So should we add Lost Girl (and other songs that quote it) under the Don't Forget section?

I mean it's the main theme so it seems right...

Honestly, kinda hard to say, since personally I hardly hear it in Beginning, mostly just in Dark Truth/Place and some songs with Lost Girl part 1

@KockaAdmiralac what are your thoughts?

It’s understandable that it’s easier to hear in The Dark Truth given the emphasis placed on it there, but it is the same quote verbatim in Beginning.

Also, since I was going back through Don't Forget quotes, this same section of the motif is in It's TV Time and Feature Presentation. This motif IS listed on the wiki, but it's falsely labeled the Feature Presentation motif.

TV Time quote on the left and Beginning quote on the right.

Wait holy moly true

This is really weird though, why would all these songs have this motif..? Like it's 8 songs I think

Maybe it's like the Bird with Alphys's motif, or Dump with THE HOLY

What would even be its name? Is it a Don't Forget variant? Or is it like the "Beginning" motif?

Well seeing as it typically appears alongside Don’t Forget and is structurally quite similar, I think it’s just a segment of the motif that is cut out of shorter renditions of it. I’ll investigate how often it’s present to come to a conclusion about it.

Listening to any song where this motif features, it's pretty clearly just a counterpart to the main section of the Don't Forget motif. It pretty much only ever shows up alongside the Don't Forget motif and is very similar structurally. I think it's very clearly a section of the full Don't Forget or even just a common variant of it and should therefore be listed alongside it.

From a couple discussions we had at the Discord server:

  1. I don't think we can call this a part of the Don't Forget motif, not in the way we have it listed on the wiki at least
  2. It seems like it's only 6 notes, and always a part of a larger phrase which changes depending on the track it's in
  3. It seems to be used in three unrelated contexts: Beginning/Dark Truth-related, Lost Girl-related, and Feature Presentation-related

Given that, it's hard to call this a motif. I don't know much music theory to say how common this particular sequence of six notes is, but there doesn't seem to be any thematic similarity between these contexts to the point where it would be hard to find a name for it.
