ASREAL Engine 1.4.0 Changelog

I literally started working on this yesterday, and now it's already done lol

Don't expect the next one to be finished this fast, though, as it's gonna be a bit of a doozy

Additions:

Attack Modifiers:

These are special blocks that have a certain effect on the turn and can be applied to (almost) any soul mode on any attack. I have already added two, and will probably add more later.

Dashing:

The first attack modifier. It allows you to do the dash from UTY and other fangames, along with granting you invincibility during the dash. It even has a cool trail effect :0

Lasso:

Lasso from UTY's Starlo fight! It yanks you into the center. Now, it's disabled on certain soul modes that restrict your movement (Blue, purple, etc.) and ones where there are two souls (switch, twin) so as to not cause issues. Other than that, you can now drag the player around in almost all soul modes!

Dark Green Attacks/Platforms

This has probably been the most requested feature, and it's here! I took the color straight from the platforms in the Sans fight, and now any attack that's dark green will collide with all soul types! There you go guys.

New Songs:

Added Deal 'em Out and Showdown from UTY's OST :D

Other Changes:

  • More code streamlining! :D
  • Fixed a bug where an attack leaving an enemy on exactly one hp in a pacifist or genocide fight would softlock the battle
  • The soul now appears slightly larger, but the hitbox is the same size (Should be more accurate)
  • Modified the blue soul physics to hopefully be more accurate to the game (What is the name of the blue soul script? I tried looking at the code but couldn't find it)
  • Now @RykerNightshard 's logo appears in the top left corner for a second before fading away - I tried to make this as unobtrusive as possible
  • Modified the logo to be themed for 1.4.0 (@JACKOBLACKOLANTERN I hope you're not too mad)

I liked working on this update, it wasn't too bad. Also, I have a new channel in the Discord Server where I (and others) will (probably) be coding live, so join if you want to see that!

By the way, if you intend on making a game with this version, I’d recommend waiting until either 1.4.1 or 1.4.2 for bugfixes/minor additions

Also 1.5.0 will have two very big features that will make the engine infinitely more versatile.

Well 1.4.1 is already out - new attack modifier which allows the battle box to be damaging, as well as fixing a critical error (that was actually present since 1.3 :grimacing: ) related to an invisible clone of the soul in the center that would still take damage, and finally I adjusted the blue soul dash mechanics a bit. Please let me know if there’s still any glitches.

1.4.3 is out now, and now I would recommend starting to actually use version 1.4 if you want to
