Our page for the shadow mantle considers it to be a living item, and to be the boss fight in the Zelda game. I have not seen a single piece of evidence for this being true, and the creature says that it is "holding" the shadow mantle, which clearly implies that it is not the shadow mantle. The purpose of a wiki is to provide objective facts. If evidence cannot be found that that boss is the shadow mantle itself, the wiki must not claim that it is true, and the wiki certainly must not claim that when there is evidence to the contrary.
I believe its named that in the files
the mantle itself is... very clearly alive during the fight. the mantle quite literally laughs mid attack as if mocking kris.
also correct me if I'm wrong but it's mentioned that the shadow mantle quite literally just.. floats behind you during the knight fight would also imply it IS alive. Items being alive in DELTARUNE isn't a foreign concept, as the king's cape is ALSO alive
Plot twist: it IS the King’s cape
I mean it hasnt been ruled out
Ehhh his cape doesn't float behind him, also his cape isn't pitch black like the mantle
also just. Wouldn't make sense.
I dont think the issue in question is whether or not the boss we fight is alive, it was just a question of whether or not that boss actually is the mantle. the enemy could just as easily be someone wearing the mantle, or something else entirely.
since the dialogue pre-fight says they're holding the mantle, and since nobody else is around once the lights come on (i don't think the holder of the mantle would just throw the thing into battle to fend for itself, then escape offscreen while it's still dark), i am led to believe the boss is just someone wearing, or possibly puppeteering/possessing the mantle.
then again, i could always be wrong. secret boss/shadow crystal related items have always had the theme of being sentient, holding the personality of the character they're taken from, at the very least
Seam did say someone STOLE the mantle. It’s clearly an item
It's worth considering that the voice we hear isn't the same character as the "mantle" we fight, but someone watching the battle instead. I don't think that's it, but it's an option.
Anyways, I think this has now been resolved by moving enemy information to Shadow Mantle Holder.
