A new standard section type for articles

I wholly support this. Per AGoddessWhoMissesPeople, the option of adding a "Allusions to [specific thing]" subheader should be kept open in case it is warranted, but other than that, I would be perfectly content with moving forward with this.

Yeah this seems like the best option, this way we can still have interesting info, while decluttering the Trivia sections.

An example that I can think of that would benefit from this would be Tenna, because due to all of his references, Tenna’s trivia section is currently one of the longest on the wiki. Implementing this would help to shorten sections with absurdly long trivia sections such as his, while still keeping that information on the page, and would overall organize the page better for readers.

One last "TL;DR" post to round up all the suggestions into one place and make sure everyone is on the same page.

We'd introduce a new second-level header type named "Allusions" to the Manual of Style. This header would serve to detail references, nods, oblique connections, and cultural shout-outs made by a specific Undertale/Deltarune subject.

  • Inter-game allusions would be placed directly under the "Allusions" header.
  • Allusions from Undertale to Deltarune and vice-versa would be placed under an "Allusions to Deltarune/Undertale" subheader.
  • As a bit of an executive decision, I think it would be better if allusions to everything else are placed under an "Other allusions" subheader. The title cannot be "Allusions to outside media", because there are allusions to stuff that isn't "media", such as the green fire NPC in Deltarune referencing the famous McDonald's hot coffee lawsuit.
  • If a specific subject contains an overwhelming amount of references to one specific work or topic, an "Allusions to [work title]" subheader can be created and placed between the two listed above, for the sake of tidying up the information.
  • Allusions listed will be formatted in natural text in a bullet-point list, in the same way "Trivia" sections are formatted.
  • All information in "Allusions" sections must be obvious and/or confirmed, and not overly speculative. Obviously, any debate over what counts as "overly speculative" should be settled through Discussions, the Discord server or any other civil medium of communication, and not edit wars.

Are we good on this?

I'm fine with Other allusions! It's reasonable given how Toby occasionally references tweets, tumblr posts and the like.

I figured we wouldn't be able to avoid bullet points when most of them would likely be a sentence worth.

For context, I've given the suggested formatting a try here, with Spamton's trivia. I went with story flow for Other allusions, as that's how I had organized trivia in the first place. I think it's easier to read this way.

Ref was updated!

Tiny update: Evie updated my draft, so it would be in-game allusions first, which doesn't need a header of its own.

Under this format, would we move W.D. Gaster content on the voice page to this section?

In general I also think this is a very good format, should be implemented in my opinion.

I have now added the Allusions and Shop sections to the layout standard, given unanimous consent in this discussion. If you're interested in rolling this change out, please check out the standardization thread for this change!

I think so, yeah.
