well really higher beings (higher beings are distinct from pale beings, although overlap is shown to be possible) aren't nessecarily based on any bug, rather the idea of a "higher being" in general.

Wryms are stated to be wryms, not worms, and “wrym” is a word that has very real mythology behind it. We also know near kothing from their appearance other than looking at fossils and moult, and I think it’s safe to say that they are Wryms not worms, comparison and scaling to be shown with Bardoon (volunteer)

The nightmares heart doesn’t have that much resemblance to a real heart, but that’s likely because I don’t watch 30min asmr videos of human hearts beating.
