Okay.
So, we've made good progress finally comprehending the fact that king of rolypoly is a variation of hey every and not a unique melody.
So why, pray tell.
Have we now seperated variations of leitmotifs off of their main leitmotif (e.g. From Now On being listed as different from Dark Sanctuary)?!?!
What are we doing?
This is actually annoying me.
A motif is a musical idea.
It can have light variations, such as ROLYPOLY and FNO, while still remaining the same musical idea.
So, don't count it as a different musical idea!
Also, who on earth decided to count the usage of don't forget in FNO as it's own leitmotif shared by only it and guardian?!?!?
WHO HAS BEEN EDITING THIS PAGE?!?
Nice to see you post Vex. Anyway, I think this is a good idea, you don’t always need an article for every note in a song! Hope you’ve been having a good hiatus btw.
They're… not counted as completely separate? Uh, if you look at the page, they're clearly all listed as subheaders, and it's all said that they're variations? We're not saying that they're completely different motifs here? It is not controversial to acknowledge that what you hear in SPAWN is not at all the same melody as you hear in Dark Sanctuary. It's a motif of Theseus even in that case, it's only considered the same at all because there's another variation that bridges between them. Variations can have additional connotations too, like how that version of Dark Sanctuary that first appears in Crumbling Tower just appears in the Titan segment tracks. It's also just generally useful to provide transcriptions and explain what major variations exist.
Like genuinely, I have no idea what the problem is supposed to be here.
No one is doing that??? Again, they're very clearly listed as variations, nobody is claiming that those are completely disconnected ideas.
This aids in readability and helps communicate the evolution of the musical idea. It definitely has a reason to be there, and you do not have a reason to be acting like you own the page.
But what if the reader used their ears?
Finding something on the wiki page and checking out the timestamps is half the fun!
(also, jeez, rude? not acting like i own the page. I just get rather frustrated by poor editing choices on the page because so often they are done by people with literally no musical background, which is something that the page itself directly says not to do.)
anyway here's the log of all my changes i was going to make
even the people disagreeing about variations can probably see the benefits of my other changes.
Removed several instances of variations of motifs being separated from their main instances. (Includes KING OF ROLYPOLY, From Now On, Petal Dance)
There is no point in separating out variations. It is still the same musical idea.
Removed the section under Gerson’s motif about including Spear of Justice. Gerson’s motif does not contain Spear of Justice. The songs containing Gerson’s motif contain Spear of Justice. Gerson’s motif consists of the first 6 notes.
Reverted name of “Violet Tactics” motif back to “Flower Foyer” motif, as the former is clearly referencing the latter instead of vice versa.
Changed name of “Powers Combined” motif for same reasoning.
Re-added “That Day” to “The Chase”. Don’t know when or why someone deleted that but I fixed it.
(so yeah if someone could do these for me that'd be lovely)
What gives you the authority to do this unilaterally? Those changes were discussed and decided by the community. You can't just go in and revert everything without others weighing in.
Well for starters, the community agreed in an old discussion that flower foyer was a better name for it.
Also was agreed upon that that day was in the chase (and also you have ears cmon now)
And then for Gerson, that's just common sense. Read it.
Okay, I'm getting the sense that you're in an argument mindset and that anything I say, regardless of good logic, you will rebut. Perhaps read this over later?
All the edits I do, I always source public approval first.
The only reason I didn't right now is because they're already established fact.
It is fun yeah but it shouldn't be necessary to understand a motif.
I mean how do you want it? Do you we treat variations like parts and list them out with sheet music?
Like :
Dark Sanctuary
Dark Sanctuary 0:00- 2:00
From Now On 0:00- 0:29 (From Now On Variant)
Crumbling Tower 1:40-2;14 (From now on Variant) 0:33-0:54 (Crumbling Tower)
I'm not against it it just seems hardly needed (also for the record I'm in full support of those changes, not like I can edit the page but, y'know for the record)
I mean I personally just prefer calling all variations of a motif by that motif's name, and then people can just notice for themselves what songs share variations
