I dislike the fact that Sword Route is called a “Route” as it isn’t an alternate path you can take that significantly changes the story of the chapter, it’s more of a really big side quest that spans the whole chapter. I know it’s called Sword Route in the files, but I feel like we should call it something else that fits what it is more accurately. Tell me what you think.
It's better to go off the official name than what makes the most sense.

In the Sword Route, you are indeed following a path. While the destination is unclear at first, at the end it’s quite clearly revealed to be the path to the Shadow Mantle.
Yea but all other routes in UT/dr are alternate paths to the whole game, while Sword Route is more of a side quest
I don't understand what you're saying. What exactly all these other "routes" have that the Sword Route does not?
I think they mean how the Weird Route continues between chapters.
No matter how short, a route is a route.
A route, by definition, is just a path taken in order to reach a destination. It doesn't necessarily have to exclude other routes (like how the Weird Route excludes playing the normal route at the same time on the same save file) but it can. In our case, the Sword Route is an optional route that can be taken to get the Shadow Mantle (think of getting the armor piece as the "destination"). So yes, it's a route.
The wiki's name for the list of routes (which has the Sword Route in it) is titled "alternate routes" though, which is kind of misleading since an "alternate route" in conventional language usually refers to a route that outright replaces the "default" or "normal" route. The wiki does specify what it means by an "alternate route" on the page with the list of routes but point about the title still stands.
The side quest is more like getting the Egg, Sword Route is quite long

Though with that exact filename now that I think of it seems to imply it’s a route of Tenna’s gameshow, not a route of Deltarune.

While true, the eggs do seem to be leading up something. While no one can say for certain, it does certainly feel like there’ll be a culminating event.
The eggs are leading to nowhere. Finding the eggs should be it's own reward.
The Sword Route literally teaches you ABOUT the Weird Route though…
I totally agree with you about it feeling wrong, but that’s the official name, we shouldn’t try to change official names again
I think a Route is something like the Weird one, with the charateristics being:
*Can’t happen at the same time as another
Has a meaningfull plot change
and
Indenpendently of the length, need to span the entire chapter after it begins
*The first is more important
