Hi, this post is for detailing the Trivia Reorganization Project 2025! The idea behind this project is simple: our Trivia sections are huge. This is a problem, because Trivia sections are generally unstructured bits of information that are not meaningfully organized like the rest of the article. If you include a bit of trivia about a character's appearance, how is a reader supposed to know that when reading the Appearance section of the relevant character?
Motivation
One of the motivations for this project is that we have to rewrite a chunk of our content to be meaningfully distinct from the old wiki's content to appear in search engines. However, the biggest motivator here is that we think our trivia sections have grown unreasonably large, and we have trouble maintaining them. Having them reorganized helps us set clearer rules for what should count as trivia and where should information go. This will also help future readers when seeking specific bits of information, as they will now be able to find that information in their dedicated sections, instead of in trivia.
What can you do
You can take a look at one of these two pages:
- List of Undertale Wiki articles sorted by Trivia section size
- List of Deltarune Wiki articles sorted by Trivia section size
Anything above 1000 for the Trivia section size is fair game for this project, but the higher the article on the lists the better.
How can you do it
Step 1: Classify the trivia point
Take a close look at the trivia section in question. Trivia points can generally be classified into one of these categories:
- This trivia point conveys information that should be covered by another section. For example:
- Trivia point detailing Asgore's look. This would go into the Appearance section.
- Trivia point detailing Sans's role in the story. This would go into the Main Story section.
- Trivia point detailing Spamton's speech patterns. This would go into the Personality section.
- etc. You can take a look at the Page Organization Guide to see what kind of sections are well-defined in articles
- This trivia point conveys information that is not noteworthy or just plain false. For example:
- Trivia point repeats information stated in the main body, or can clearly be inferred from the main body.
- Trivia point is in the form "Spamton is the only character that uses brackets when he speaks", or "Jevil is the only enemy using voice lines, aside from Spamton, Tasque Manager, Queen, ...". While there are probably situations in which such trivia would be interesting, if you find that the trait being exhibited by this character is too specific, or the group of monsters exhibiting this trait is too large, it falls in this category.
- Trivia point is better placed on a different article, or already covered by that article with no real usefulness to the current article subject.
- Trivia point is of the form "X is likely a reference to Y" with insufficient supporting evidence.
- This trivia point conveys information that truly does not belong in any other section of the article, and should therefore remain in place.
Step 2: Take action
If you find any trivia point that belongs to category 1, please reword it and place it into the relevant section. Trivia points in category 2 should generally be removed from articles, so don't be afraid of doing that either. Only after carefully examining the available sections should you classify the trivia point as category 3. These trivia points should remain where they are for now.
But, good news! We have worked to identify some common trivia point groups that are interesting information, and added multiple new sections into the standard to account for them. These are:
- Etymology: if a trivia point is talking about the article subject's name, you can now move it into
Profile > Etymology(on character pages) orEtymology(on non-character pages)! - Creation and Development: information pertaining to this article subject's creation as well as other development information. For example, trivia points about previous versions of Spamton's design should now be moved into this section.
- Cameos: if the character has made an appearance in Deltarune, or any Toby-endorsed media (such as Super Smash Bros), you can move trivia points about this into this section!
- Version History: Trivia points pertaining to historical information that is no longer in the current game version, or information that was added in the current game version, there is now a
Version Historysection you can add for such trivia!
(Remember: these sections are not structured as bullet points, but as paragraphs, just like the rest of the article is. You usually can't just move a trivia point into one of these sections, please try to reword it to make sense within its new place in the article.)
Examples
You can take a look at these edits to see how you can cut down on trivia:
- Cutting down Papyrus/In Battle from 11 to 2 trivia points (most were not noteworthy)
- Entirely eliminating Chilldrake's Trivia section (reorganized into Appearance, Etymology, Main Story and Version History)
- Cutting down Endogeny from 15 to 3 trivia points (mostly reorganized into other sections)
- Moving around information in the Once Upon a Time article, removing 5 trivia points
- Moving around information in the Nice Cream page, removing 3 trivia points
How do you receive a reward
By participating in this project, you can receive a Trivia Spam(ton) Hunter badge! Please tackle pages from the list with >1000 in Trivia section size, the more the better. Have a close look at the trivia sections and think about how to reorganize it, then apply your fixes.
If we see you put significant effort into doing this for at least one page, you're going to receive a badge! So it's better to pick a page that requires more effort (not necessarily the highest page on the list, just in general), and put more effort into reorganizing trivia on that page, than picking five pages and just slightly moving around information without much thought.
