Theory about Kris and the Knight

The theory is:
Kris isn’t working with the Knight. They are just a straight-up coward (the Knight is scairy [sic] to them), which is why Kris damage output in the ch3 Knight fight is low.
When we choose to think of the Knight in chapter 4, Kris thinks of something else, because they still have ptsd from the Knight fight
I have a lot of counter arguments, so well spit out whatever y'all got

My main question is what does this theory have that the leading interpretation doesn’t?

From a meta POV: What would this narratively bring? Why would there be hints to Kris partnering with the Knight if it didn’t lead to anything except Kris being a coward?

For some in-universe questions: Why would Kris know the code to the shelter? Why would Kris & Carol hide this info from us when we look in Dess’s guitar? What’s up with Kris & Carol if they aren’t allied with the Knight?

kris and Carol just get along together

and plus, the shelter code… probably Kris initially saw the guitar, but didn’t want us to know the code

because Kris doesn’t want us to replace them as the hero (opinion)

Me personally, I don't WANT Kris to be working with the Knight, the evidence just all points to that being the case. Toby could still be pulling a MASSIVE fast one with us though, we all know our Tricky Tony.

Kris and Carol are just homophobic and don't want Noelle to date Susie

That still doesn't answer the question of them opening the shelter door

To keep Noelle and Susie from dating in the bunker

aw hell naw

…what kind of dating in the bunker???

Idk I’m just making Kris and Carol are homophobes crack theory

The smoochy kind.

Yeah, I think Kris is scared too, but that wouldn’t stop them from attacking the knight at the top of the stairs. We’ve seen how they act when afraid. Reluctantly or not, they’re working with the knight.

Or maybe, Kris just… couldn’t do it due to technical constraints.
Kris has limited combat capability outside of battle.
