Was just browsing the Deltarune wiki, and saw the section for The Door leitmotif says it appears in THE WORLD REVOLVING.
It definitely sounds similar, but it's not the same motif - the third note in The Door is dramatically higher than the first note, while in REVOLVING, the third note is lower than the first.
It's a minor difference, but it changes the whole shape of the melody, and I don't think it should be counted.
It's not uncommon for a theme to be altered and evolved on throughout a song, but considering the unaltered motif doesn't appear in REVOLVING, I think it's fair to call it a coincidence.
I get what you mean. But I think it IS meant to be in the song because of king telling us that jevil not only knew the knight but is also the reason king even knew about the knight in the first place. So it would in my opinion make a lot of sense for the song to have part of the knights theme.
It would make sense for Jevil's song to have part of the Knight's song if and only if the Knight was the "strange someone" that Jevil met. Unfortunately, we do not know if this is the case.
i think it’s pretty clearly meant to be the door. leitmotifs can have slight tweaks in order to fit better with the rest of the song, they don’t have to be identical every time they appear (eg, freedom motif in twr compared to big shot). and even if it is a coincidence, toby has included leitmotifs in unrelated songs before, undyne not having relevance to the scene where dating tense plays doesn’t mean her leitmotif is suddenly not in the song
Even though it's absolutely true that the Knight was not the "Strange Someone", we know that Jevil was aware of and told King about the Knight, so it makes perfect sense to be there
Guys. A leitmotif doesn't have to be a perfect match to be in the song. Listen to "Queen" and then "Attack of the Killer Queen", they have different variations. "sans." and "It's Raining Somewhere Else" are wildly different. Look at Tenna, his leitmotif is basically never the same.
If you actually analyze it like I did, "Black Knife" and "THE WORLD REVOLVING" are extremely similar. Compare the second measure of the Knight's motif, rather than the first, with the "mysterious" melody from THE WORLD REVOLVING. They share almost every note. Additionally, the chord progressions are almost identical, with the only differences being the E minor being replaced by A major, and the F# major being replaced with F# major.
Additionally, while probably coincidences, they're both in G# minor, and Black Knife changes keys to B flat while TWE changes keys to B (although for TWE, it's more like tonicization).
In conclusion, yes, they are without a doubt the same motif. People who argue about leitmotifs need to actually go ahead and analyze the music. Also, harmony and chords are criminally overlooked when searching for leitmotifs, considering the "Titan" motif is essentially a glorified chord progression with no melody.
