Soundtrack alternate method

I noticed that in the Wiki, some soundtracks use YT music or Spotify. YT music opens a new tab, while Spotify only shows a preview. What if we add a new option to implement a download from the Internet Archive, which would be easy enough, and free.

Is that legal?

Yes.

Good

No, and that's why we no longer do that.

Archive.Org lets you download from it.

Can’t we reuse their free-download things?

Hinikimori says that's illegal, and I believe them.

Why is it illegal to take free content from an archive and post it to another free place that’s a wiki?

Toby didn’t legally bind his music…right?

Also, maybe we could just have someone go and record either a YT music video or actual in-game, would that be legal?

Idk exactly why it would be, but I think it's technically pirating.

Pirating is when you take something you’re supposed to pay for.

That’s what my classmates did.

But taking something that’s already free, and sharing it…

Does Spotify really own the tracks?

No, Toby does

The OSTs aren't free, I don't think

?? yes he did
its published by materia collective

Oh.

Then how come Internet Archive has it?

I would love this. if i’s free and legal then might as well.

That said, it isn't. So don't.

Toby Fox makes money from album purchases and royalties from streaming services. Downloading the tracks for free on a third-party website is piracy. (Just because it is on Internet Archive doesn't mean that Toby or Materia approved of it.) Does it really matter if you are just doing it for personal use? Not really. But the threat of a potential DMCA is enough for us to not want to host free downloads on the wiki.

So…how come Archive isn’t getting in trouble?

As far as I know, the law shouldn’t be making an exception for them…
